how to take great photos of your kids

franni by franni Standing(January 2007) (rank 255th)
I reccently got some photos done of my daughter and they didnt come cheap either.
most profesional photos are more then 500.
when i got them done i asked the photgraher if he had any tips on how i could take some great pics myself
as i love to take photos but they always seem to be close ups, because lillian runs for the camera as soon as she notices it.
theses are some of the tip he wrote down for me:

  • arrange a area where you want to have the photos taken
  • make sure everyone in the picture is in the right spot. and there is no unwanted objects in the way that will come up in the photo.
  • try and take the photos with a camera that you can see the picture after you take it, to avoid paying for printing, when they dont turn out right.
  • try different angels, they might be better from the left side or the right side
  • zoom in and out. i noticed when i tried to qoom in the pictures where much better
  • natural light always works best.
  • when taking photos of babies try to catch there emotions in the pic, like frawn, smile, them clapping ect.
  • never give up, you will eventually get a few good pics if you keep trying so never give up.
  • get down to there level
  • use flash out doors

these tips have helped me as i didnt no what i was doing just thought how hard could it be to take a great photo.
i do take some nice pics but with these tips they helped me out alot i hope they help you to.

i also found a great website online that you might be interested in

Yep my kids get too close too
Nothing worse then getting the photo's done by a professional and then realising that u have to mortgage the house to get the whole package ...which just happen to be beautiful......

Isn't it funny that kids run for the camera as soon as you get it out...... My two do it too...

Miss 2 always says when she sees the camera "photos mummy..... I beautiful......."

Great tips, thank you so much.  I bet everyone here takes thousands of pictures of their wee ones and will be incoporating at least one point that you made in their next efforts!  Cheers - Lui

Well done!
This is a fantastic bit of advice Franni! I also found out that when i try and get them to pose they dont turn out as well as when i just snap away while they are doing their own thing (playing, watching TV etc)
These are so much more natural and cute!
