Sometimes it can be hard knowing how to read to a 4 year old child. We don't like to sound too childish, but we don't want to sound too advanced either! Here are 8 great tips for all on how to read to a 4 year old child.
- Take turns at reading-. You read one page, and then let your child read another. Continue until the book is finished!
- Where, What and Why- Ask your child questions like "Where is the...." , "why is she doing that" to make conversation.
- Always follow the writing with finger or pencil- It makes it easier for the child to keep up with the story and with when child is reading to prevent repetition.
- Give your child a quiz- See if your child can finish of sentences or phrases of a familiar story nook!
- Ask questions- Make sure your child understands what is happening in the story book.
- Talk about the book- What are the things your child likes and dislikes about the book and why? What makes the book so good?
- Activities- Can your child remember the characters names in the book and what they did! Or perhaps another activity might be to ask your child to remember the number of events that happened, what they are and what order they happened in?
- Time for Pictures- Let your child look at the pictures first. It will help to get your child more interested in the book!
I hope that all parents have found some useful tips for their children!
