Free Love Give Aways For your Kids

MagpieGirl by MagpieGirl Talking Back(January 2007) (rank 500+)

Over at my not-only-a-mom website Magpie Girl, we are launching a new habit of giving a little love away every day of February. (Why should Feb 14th have all the fun?) In the spirit of giving free love away to all kinds of people, here's my list of some

favorite ways to give love away to the little people in my life. Won't you add your own ideas to the think tank?

Ten Free Love Give Aways for Kiddos

1. Give 'em a five minute shoulder rub, back scratch, or "smoothy" (what my kids call it when I gently stroke thier back or arms)

2. Leave a note on thier breakfast plate telling them one thing that's great about who they are.

3. Draw a picture on the napkin in thier lunch.

4. Ask if they want to play a board game before dinner. (Yes, even the really noisy one.)

5. Offer to make muffins with them after school.

6. Do one of thier chores -- maybe taking out the trash -- and leave a sticky note behind saying "This trash emptied by mom/dad just because you're great!"

7. Three words: Pancakes. For. Dinner.

8. Break one rule that they really hate. In our house this would mean letting them play video games on a week night.

9. Let them choose what they want for dinner. (Warning: may require advanced planning.)

10. Look through thier baby book with them and tell them the story of thier birth.

Love Giveaways
I try really hard to do this daily with the boys.  I know some days I fall short.

Great tip.  Thanks.

You be the leader!

At 3 1/2, Alberto loves to be the leader, even if it's just to the car. After that simple free love give away, there's "Would you like to do the key?" He loves to unlock the door. Asking him to do something that he knows he can do is a flood of love for him.

And love to you and yours Rachelle! Susan

absolutely melts my heart

These are some fantastic ways to show you love your kids. My bub is only one year old but I try really hard, daily, to show how much I love him. I can't wait to do these things with him when he's a bit older, it puts a tear in my eye and melts my heart. You are such a thoughtful person. Thanks for the tips. Soooooo beautiful!

Hmmm!?!
Sounds fantastic! Although, I can see it all now in my household, where my son will  take advantage of the whole thing, and the next day when everything's back to normal, and I say to him, "well, you can't have blah blah for dinner because it's dessert/breakfast (whatever)", and he'll turn around and say, "but you let me have it yesterday" etc, I can just see the whole free love thing totally backfiring. My son even though he's not yet 3, will try and manipulate the whole thing.  But I do totally love the concept! Everybody loves to feel special, especially when they aren't expecting it. Great ideas.

Great idea......
Hi
Great ideas......wonder if that would stop the teenagers from arguing the minute they walk onto the house.......
Is it really only day 3 that they are back at school......
Some of the ideas wouldn't quite work in our house....add lots more for me.....
Replace they choose for dinner and the napkins......mine are lucky enough to take food with them to school..it interrupts their social time......Wonder why i buy all the food we do to watch it die on the cupboard or maybe it is a science experiment that is growing there...and in the leftovers that they said i cant chuck out cause they are having it for afternoon tea......tomorrow  Wonder if i can write I love you in the furry stuff..........when will they learn that tomorrow never comes.....its not really that bad just feels like it some days when the leftover get fed to the dog 3 days later......because no one ate them "tomorrow"

Free love

The best free love i could ever give my daughter is to offer her a hug when she least expects it! I usually stop her mid sentence when she is arguing about something!  It takes her by surprise and usually stops an arguement too!

I love all of the examples given so far and am gonna try some today! Thanks!!!!! Es...xox

Ooooo...I think you should ask Carter and Mada what Free Love Give Aways would be from kids to parents. I bet they would make a great list for you to post on Minti!
