stop sleeping with mom & dad

Anonymous Author (February 2007)

Even though my baby slept in her cot, she always woke up at night and wanted to sleep between her dad and i. when she turned 1, we packed the cot away and i made a bed for her on the floor next to my bed with lots of pillows

for support. she immediatly enjoyed her new space and loves to hang out and play there too. my toddler still gets up for feeds but remains in her bed. not only do u get a more comfortable sleep, but you also have your partner all to yourself ,all night thru.

No more room...

I have a problem... my 1 1/2 year old sleeps very comfortably... in my bed.

I have tried everything. I brought his toddler bed into my room, in hopes that he would use it. I have gone to the extent of staying up late, waiting for him to fall asleep, and then placing his little body into that little bed, but when I wake in the morning... there he is, right next to me. If anyone knows how to fix this little nite time issue, please, help....

No more room...

Hi there

In reply to your msg, someone once told me that even if i have to spend a few nights on the floor myself, then thats what i should do. dont give up yet. put your child's favourite things there, spend time there, anything that keeps the child's attention , in order for him/her to get used to the idea of using the new space , that belongs to him.

maybe the toddler bed will be too small for the both of you. use a few thick blankets over a thin baby mattress. after a week or so, reduce the size of the bed and only lay with him till he falls asleep. keep assuring your child that mommy is here, and wont leave you.

i hope it gets easier for you.

all the best

B

stop sleeping with mom & dad

I have seen so many parents fall into the trap of having bubby sleep in the same bed and it turn out to be a problem all concerned.

I was one of these parents that was paranoid about allowing that to happen and only because of the dangers of a baby in the same bed as mum and dad. I still remember being pregnant with my first and reading about a woman in my home town rolling over and suffercating her baby while she slept. God I felt so bad for her....

Good advice and like Merle said there are some great ideas for parents to use...

Cheers

Lavinia

Hi Lavinia

THanks for the comment. yes, i was also so tired of having her feet end up in my mouth, and my neck was sore from being pushed to sleep half on the pedastal. sounds crazy i know. but i had to think of something.when i put her on the floor, i acted all excited about this new space that was now just for her and her teddies.at first i had to lay with her till she slept , now its just a breeze. its amazing, she's only 15 months but she understands so well that that is where she belongs.
