dried fruit for kids

madonna by madonna Speaking(February 2007) (rank 500+)

Hey there all I have been buying Markus dried fruit for a while now and have found that it has started getting a bit expensive

so i went in search of something that would make it a lot more cost effective.

I found a machine called a healthy

food dryer and it is just great My litle one loves the fruit and veges that i have been drying for him

it takes a bit to get used to the flavour as it is not quiet the same as the shop bought fruit but it is extremely healthy as there is only natural sugars in the fruit

wich i find great for there teeth

                                             Cheers Madonna

Re: dried fruit for kids
I bought a food dryer myself on ebay...... was a fraction of the price of new so i could see if i actually liked the taste and also as my boy is very picky i had to make sure he liked it too..... well i dry mushroom, bananas apples, orange peices (then dipped in chocolate) strawberries and so many other goodies....i could go on and on

I love it though i am still geting used to the fact that there is no preservatives..... my mum can now have dried fruit as she has a sulphur allergy which makes having the sore bought stuff no good for her

hugs on a good article

What a great idea, I was talking about this with a friend the other day.  I will definitely be looking into it, and as gingermuggins mentioned, it would be great for using on excess fruit, especially if there is a bargain buy to be had.

Enhancing favours

My mother owned a dehydrator and when she passed away, I got it.  It was a godsend.  I enjoyed the various things I could do with it as well as the fruit and veges I got.  It does make the fruit and veges more concentrated and boy does it bring out the flavours.  Experimenting with different juices and honey etc, adds different flavours.  You can also make cheese crackers and potato chips.  Okay they are not the same as shop bought, but the good thing is that the homemade stuff has no additives, preservatives or any other chemically made addition as shop bought does.  Thus healthier foods for healthy lives.

Simply Easy

Great idea.

I have a dehydrator and anytime we have excess fruit we chop it up and dehydrate it. The machine also allows you to make roll ups, like the ones you can buy in the supermarkets that are full of sugars!!!  Pureed berries are ideal for this and there is no added sugars or any other ingrediants. I got my machine from the local electrical store around 10 years ago for $150 and its a dream.

Now why didnt i think of writing this advice, lol, its the simple things i never think of. Well done madonna :)

keep smiling

gingermuggins xx

I've just noticed Ebay has a few dehydrators up for sale.  Do a google search and you might find an online shop that sells them, i did a quick search http://shopping.ninemsn.com.au/results/shp/?bCatId=1558

hope links are allowed, if not a slap across the wrists will be fine :)

Way to go
It's great to see you being so proactive and making your own dried fruit (runs of into the corner to think about doing the same)
