Cream's and babies

Anonymous Author (February 2007)

I've found that if you don't put cream's or baby oil or what ever on babies, they'll get exzema when they're older, or some sort of skin complaint. But this doesn't happen with every child, as everyone's skin, doesn't matter how old you are, baby to elderly, you

will most likely still get eczema, so i'm saying that cream's, oils etc doesn't work on every child.

've observed this from my brother's children and friends children, so it's best to always keep a baby nice and moisterised while a baby, so they don't have skin problems when they get older.

If your child reacts to cream, keep trying until you find something they're ok with, and keep applying it through out until they're in school. It's not a waste of time or anything, it's just too keep their skins nice and soft and no irritations etc when they get older.

Eczema
is genetic, creams or no creams.  But some creams can help with dry skin problems in general.

Leave the skin alone
I found that with my kids and even myself m\oisturising is important - just need to be careful WHAT you put on the skin.  Also depends on what is happening with the skin. Reacting to things or is the skin just dry?
With my boy he has suffered from severe eczema. I have left his skin alone for the most part and have a look at him now! And its just getting better and better (softer)

Leave the skin alone
Well said mcm.

It is so important to give to the skin the nourishment that it needs, not put lotion every day regardless...also to be aware of what is in each lotion and not give the skin things that are possibly going to harm it.

Creams and lotions aren't for everyone, but i found with myself and my daughter that we both get exzma if we don't put the cream on. Thankyou for your feedback. I guess creams, oils etc may not necessarily work on every child, but maybe once they do get exzema when they're older, maybe the cream etc should be applied.

I have to say

I myself have been putting cream on my daughter since she was born.. Just baby aveno because its very soft and it does not irrate the skin. But my daughter has developed eczema, so I don't know if it's true.. It may be for someone else, but it has not worked for me.

I just have to say

I voted this neutral as I am unsure what to vote. I don't think that this is true. I think if you are going to right an article like this you need to say that these are your experiences and not documented facts. Some people could read this and not the comments and take your article the wrong way. I read the comments so I know that you are not talking about every child but others may only read the article.

this is just a suggestion: Maybe you could edit the article and add that you are not talking about every case just your experiences

also i've found if they have cradle cap, baby oil is best put on at night, and combed thru in the morning before they go for a bath.

Everyone is different
Everyone has a different skin type and some need moisturising more than others.  I regularly moisturise myself a couple of times a week - but my daughter needs doing daily.  Finding a lotion that works on your skin type is a must though...we use one that is a great all-rounder.  If you want more details minti-mail me, but it has an aloe base which makes it great for healing skin complaints also

Yeah, i realise now everyone has different skin types etc and i've heard there's a few moisterisers, creams etc with aloe vera in it, and i've been looking for it everywhere.

Interesting

Hmmm, interesting :)

my kids get sun cream slapped on them every day at the moment. If they have skin complaints i use sorbelene cream but i dont go out of my way to moisturise them.

Interesting advice though, keep it up :)

keep smiling

Interesting

Thanks heaps for replying. Yeah, i didn't realise that it had different effects on children, but i was always told to always put cream of some sort on my child and alot  of the time i would forget, and at the age of nearly 4 my daughter does sometimes get dry skin on her arms etc.

That with all kids its like that. My eldest has bad eczema. My youngest has the softest skin. Eldest had cream all the time and youngest never.

No problems here
I suppose it might work on some kids- i have never used moituriser on my kids they might get massaged wiht almond oil every now and then. Both my boys have no skin problems. My son did once get exzma type reaction but it was because of something in cornflakes. My youngest has the best skin and I really think its becasue I didn't let the hospital bath him after he was born, all the fluid etc was allowed to soak into his skin. I have friend who noticed this also with her bub.
