Hi everybody, today I was at the shops and it,s 37 degrees in Adelaide today I had finished my shopping and gone to put the groceries in the car, when I opened my drivers side I could hear a child crying I looked around didn,t see anyone so thought nothing
of it next thing I know this little girl pops her head up and she looked like she had been cooked she was in the car parked next to mine. I tried oprning her door it was locked so I went around the drivers side the driver door was unlocked thank god I asked the closest shop attendant to grab my kids out of my car and went to the toilets and soaked this poor kid with water mind you shes crying like nothing now I went back with her to shop to where my kids were and asked the lady to call the police and then asked her if she would go to the main shopping centre and asked the girl behind the counter to call for the owner of a 2 year old girl and gave her the rego number also .
The police had arrived and we were their for nearly one hour before any sight of the kids parent came about . I had never met a more uncaring parent as she wasn,t bothered that her child could have died she was more worried that someone had opened her car without her permission. I stayed for nearly another half an hour before leaving as she was playing with my kids and wanted to make sure she was okay she was still quite red. Anyway I want everyone to know that YOU SHOULDN, T LEAVE ANY CHILD AT ANY TIME ALONE IN A CAR AS NOT ONLY HEAT CAN KILL THEM BUT PEOPLE STEAL CARS PEOPLE HAVE ACCIDENTS ESPECIALLY IN CAR PARKS AND EVERYONE HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL CHILDREN HAVE A RIGHT TO GOOD TREATMENT SO DON,T WORRY IF YOU THINK YOUR OUT OF LINE TAKE ACTION AS IT COULD SAVE SOMEONES LIFE.

Recently I have been reading many cases of incidences about leaving the children in car..I'm just wondering why some people do this..It is one of the most riskiest one for the life of the child.
I live in Brisbane, and was shopping at my local Aldi today when I heard two children yelling out of a car window, I looked around, and these two children looked about 3 and 4 years of age, no parent in sight. Are parents just not caring that someone could STEAL their children? I have three kids and they come with me everywhere I go. You just don't know what idiots are around.
What about the anxiety issues that the poor child will suffer.. So the mother can shop without dragging the 2 year old, or leave them sleeping to make it easier for them.
Also I see a lot of poor little puppy dogs left with the window slightly open. And they just look at you with the expression "please get me out of here!"
well i believe leaving a child alone in the car is wrong, just the other day i was driving back home from my parents and my car need fuel, and wonder if i need to get fuel who stay in the car with my boy? so i guess when ever i need fuel i need to get some one
I acn't believe that parents do this! I swaer its purly ingnorance for the most part!!!
I have never experienced a child in the car, but I saw a poor dog once, cooked and dead! The owners were gone half an hour and the twits did not leave the windows down! Scared the pants off of me, seeing the poor thing like that!
Couldn't agree more with you... I'm a firm believer in never leaving your child in the car unattended. A friend of mine left his son in the car for 30 mins - an hour in the shade and in sight while he was fishing. Because it wasn't hot and he was in control of the situation he thought it was a safe thing to do. The car door was locked so nobody could get in, he was a watchful distance away while he was fishing. What he didn't realise is just because you think you are in control of a kid alone in a car you are not. Some car seats are death traps for sleeping babies/toddlers! When a toddler or baby nods off to sleep quite often their neck is rested down on the strap. If a baby cannot yet move their head on their own it can block the air ways and suffocate your child.
Poor baby!! U did the right thing regaurdless of what the parent thinks. I must admit I did leave me baby in the car. BUT not in that kind of heat or that amount of time, I would not go to the shops if the tempture is that high. Just want to share tho It was a cold windy over cast day I had just finished a swimming lesson with my tot and she fell asleep in the car. I thought it would have been better for me to leave her there then get her up and carry her in the cold while I drop the DVDS back to the video store. I had been 5 mins. I got back to the car and there was a crowd around the car. I thought OMG she is screaming and awake. But she wasnt she was still asleep nice and warm. OMG the way the people yelled at me and made me fell really bad it was unforgettable. Well it makes me think should I drag me sleeping baby around in the cold? When it comes to high temptures tho I pick them up and take them with me even if Im going to to 5 mins. I can always get them back to sleep if I have woken them up.
After everything that has been said about this one thing i can't believe people still leave their children in the car. The police should have arrested her.
OMG!!!! How could anyone do that to thier child. Good on you for doing something about it, you should feel so proud of yourself because you obviously saved her life.
OMG I don't leave my child in the car alone for even a minute anything could happen. So lucky that you were there good on you for saving that little girls life. You are her angel.
hello pcgames
good for you good on you.
i know just how you feel when you get an uncareing parent yell at you.
i reckon some one should put them in a hot car parked in the hot sun lock it up and leave them in it with no drink and see how they feel after an hour or so.
Good on you acting instead of ignoring it. And thank goodness that you did too, that poor family would have been another sad statistic if you hadnt. Aww, that poor child. I hope that the parent learns from this error of their ways once they have calmed down and realised what they did so very wrong.
I have tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart for all these cases of thoughtlessness.
(It is ok for me to talk, we dont use a car)
Peace

I can't believe that parents still do this... How incredibly stupid - the poor little kid is so lucky you were there & not afraid to take action. To many people turn a blind eye on these little ones that so desperately need help.
I have never seen a child in a car but i have rescued a dog from a car. I live in sydney so it gets hotter here. It could have been around the 40 mark. I pretty much did the same thing as you, went to centre management and made an announcement. The people couldnt have cred less. I felt like taking the dog home (except i lived with my father at the time).
How can someone do that? Did the police take this person to jail? They deserve going to jail and learn a lesson. Their child could have died or been kidnapped. I feel so bad for the child. Makes me think that this parent doesn't really care for their child. I hope I am wrong. You are a hero. Good that you somehow got that child out of the car.
You are so wonderful for taking action and getting the child out of the blistering heat. I hate it so much when I saw something like that. When I was in Irbil, Iraq I saw a little girl crying and crying yelling Baba (Daddy in Arabic) and apparently she was asleep and he stepped over to get a paper across the street. What got terrifying was she left the car and walked in the traffic and a nice young man ran to grab her up. He then took her by the hand, once safely off the street, to find her father. People in these countries are generally very loving of the children regardless if they are their children or not. Though there are cases unfortunately all over the world of children being taken. This could have easily turned into something like that but I am so happy it did not. Please never leave your children alone in the vehicle without a much older sibling or another adult to keep an eye on them. And never leave a little one, especially in blistering heat. Same advice applies for a pet too. Too often people take their pets as well and leave them locked up with no water in a hot hot car. Thanks for the advices on taking action in situations that could easily turn out bad. I am so glad that it was a sincere and caring person like yourself that "rescued" her from a bad person finding that unlocked door and "rescued" her from a possible heat stroke. Thank you.
good on you for hearing the child in the car , thak goodness the car door was unlock and you could get her out.
I dont why take the child with them to shop if they are going to leave them in a car ,they could ask someone to look after her or not go at all if they didnt want the little girl in the shops with them.
I think the parents should be lock in the car and teach them a lesson maybe they never do it again to there child
I get so angry at parents who just don't stop to think about the 'what if's' - who don't learn from what they hear and see on the news and who do not use basic common sense.
I mean seriously - what idiot does not get that cars get hot, kids in cars get hot and kids who get hot in hot cars die.....DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB
I think parents like this - the ones that have been reported should be made to attend a parenting course. We make drivers who act stupid in cars attend a driving course, why not parents who do this? They should be made to visit a moruge and witness, first hand, what a baby looks like who has been left to die in a car. Accidents are one thing, leaving your child like this is another.....arrrgh!
I had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago in townsville
I was shopping at the North Ward shopping centre and i noticed a 4 wheel drive parked in a no parking zone but was taking my daughter to the toilet at the time and didn't take any notice of the car. After taking my daughter to the toilet I then decided to go to the macdonald's to get an iced coffee for myself and a juice for my daughter, which we had in maccas. I then went to BiLo and noticed 2 children were in the car, which was turned on and completely unlocked. The oldest was no more than 2 and the baby was just a few months old. The car had been there a long time now, and i had gone into the newsagent to let them know and to call security but then the mother came out so I had a go at her, telling her there was nothing to stop me from stealing the car. Anyone could have taken the car and not even noticed the children in the back of it! She justified it by saying she had left the air-con on in the car to keep them cool, but that's not the point. The car was unlocked, keys in the ignition, running. There for the taking basically. She asked if I knew what it was like to get that many children out of the car and I told her yes, there's plenty of time I have another child my daughter's age as well as my cousin's children and take them all shopping and get them all out of the car and back to the car and it's a hassle but it's what mums do. She shrugged it off and nothing was done about it. I gave her rego to the police but i don't know the outcome of it.
Good for you for paying enough attention to notice the child. You probably saved the child's life!
I don't understand this myself. A few years ago, there have been a couple of incidents in the news where I live where the parents leave/forget their children in the car. In extremely hot weather, it takes but minutes for the temperature inside the car to rise up and be deadly.
Hi
Well you may have saved this one but did you read in the paper about the 3 year old that locked herself in the car in the sun and died...she was gone over half an hour before anyone realised she was missing.....Half an hour.....what was the mum doing.....How can your 3 year old be missing for more than 5 minutes before you realise shes not there
She went outside locked herself in the car and died.......
How many have to die before someone wakes up
I sit and shudder to think
Why weren't you there??????
Luv Deb
Not your article... that was great! But it's absolutely disgusting and appalling that there are such incompetent useless DEAD-heads out there that have absolutely NFI. (no bleeping idea) I think you are a saviour for taking the actions you did, although if it were me I probably would have choked the parent, because it's probably not the first time they have been irresponsible with their child and it certainly won't be the last. It makes me positively sick with the things that are done (or not done) to children and it upsets me that innocent young children are treated worse than animals.
I can't believe some people. I mean really, is it so hard to unstrap a child out of their seat and bring them with you? I don't think so. You have saved a life by doing what you did and I hope one day people will take more responsibility for their actions and themselves.
omg that is so wrong, you did a really good deed,
what did the police do did they arest the mum isnt there laws now you get a fine if you leave your child in the car unattended for even 5 mins,
you are a life saver, shame on her mother.
YOU ARE AN ANGEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The little girl is alive because of you and the mother well...............who gives a rats as to opening her car without permission.Good on you it is true that someone else may have turned away not wanting to get involved. I would have done the same. lol
Your actions saved that little girls life. There is no reason for leaving a child in the car. I know that many parents think "Oh I will just be five minutes" but in that five minutes anything can happen.
Hi
I have only one thing to say and that is i hope she loses custody of her child/children....
I would only care about my kids not the car being opened.....
Where was she...more than likely taking care of her selfish self.....
Congrats to you for doing what you did....
She will probably say she was only ducking into the shop for milk....
Grrrr people like her make me so angry
Luv Deb
hello
i am new here i am a parenting grand mother and believe thats hard work and i hope to make many good friends here.
i tolatly agree with you on the subject of leaving kids in cars unattended.
i australia where i am it is illeagle to leave kids and pets in cars
and people that do it get fined big time
like you i have had to rescue kids from cars during my course of work i used to do and some times i had to use force to gain entry to locked cars to rescue kids
and for my efford the parents became very abusive as well
This was a blatant display of child abuse........my god it is times like this I am all for a parenting license Thank the lord you saved that little girl you need a medal and that parent needs a fine and to do a course in parenting and community service.I just am so angry......well done You have my admiration and thanks hugs Merle
i know of 1 shopping mall in the northern suburbs where people do this all the time and get reported for it. I can't handle children left in the car without an adult on any kind of day. It's just wrong.
Good on you for what you did. I would've given the mother a mouth full. I hope she gets charged for neglet. I'm also in SA, and it is very hot out there.
I have ducted air conditioning and it's still a touch warm inside. Imagine it being trapped inside a car. Poor child.
You would think with the amount of reports on deaths of children being left in cars they would no better. I mean really if they are going to do that why do these people have children????
