Flat Head Due To Poor Muscle Control |

My son has had severe muscle control problems in his legs, back and neck since he's been four months old. Now at 8 months old, he is just learning to hold up his own head. He has had a therapist come out every week since he turned two months. At
first I felt to blame. Maybe I wasn't holding my baby enough. When you have other children, it's hard to spread your time evenly. I made the first move. I called an organization called "Five Counties Childrens Center" and made myself a personal reference. Weeks passed and I heard nothing from them. I had to take my son to our family doctor and have them send out a referal for me. Since it took so long for him to be seen, he suffers from a flat head. Alot a of babies have it, some more severe then others. My therapist said that my son's head will always be flat, because of his age, molding it back will be tougher. So if you have noticed a physical delay with your infant, that you believe needs attention, act now. And in the mean time try some of these helpful tips:
1. Change the position of your baby frequently. For every nap, change from on side to the other.
2. Hold your baby as often as you can in an upright position, one that is comfortable for you and your young one. Make sure your baby has lots of support.
3. Once your infant is ready, be sure to have tummy time as often as possible. Placing a mirror in front of your infant works really well to help with upper back and neck muscles.
And remember, if you think you need help, please don't be afraid to find it. There are many resources out there who are ready, willing and able.
