Parent-Child Playdate

Jacqui by Jacqui Talking Back(June 2006) (rank 277th)

My husband and I both work shift work, so unlike the mon-fri workers, we don't have all weekends as family time. For this reason, we occassionally (5X a school year) take the girls out of school for the day to do something fun as a family. I believe this time

is very important. I'm not the only one with that opinion-- it's a proven fact that parents that spend quality time, regularily, with their children have well balanced children. Tomorrow, the girls will be playing hookie for the afternoon, so we can go to Canada's Wonderland (an amusement park).  Do I worry about taking them out of school?  Not one bit! On days like these, they usually come home with homework-- assignments that would have been completed in class. Hey it's only grade 1, and 2. I believe the benefits outweigh the downfalls. Besides I enjoy the rides just as much as they do!

Quality time with the kids!!!!
My husband works alot during the week. We try to make the best of our weekends by spending quality time with the kids. Our kids are still  pretty young but our goal is to give each of our three kids some quality time on the weekends.

Great Thoughts
I am glad I get plenty of time with my boys and don't have to bring them out of school but I would do that over missing time in the important early years of their lives.

Our hookie day was great. The girls were thrilled. They didn't know where we were going until we got there. We all had a great time!  An early Father's Day present, as hubby is working on Sunday.

I like it

I think it's totally great that you do that. For Kinder, First and Second grade my daughter had "perfect attendance". This year she had to miss a few days because she was really sick. Once she missed one it took a lot of pressure off of her (and me) and since then we had an opportunity to play hookie from school because something really fun came up with our extended family. It was great. I've realized that those unexpected and exciting days off are what children remember. Good work Mom.

That's Awesome
It is easy to make up for the missed school time, much harder to make up for missed time as a family. I think you and your husband are being really smart and your daughters are going to hugely benefit from these experiences. Think about the memories you are creating for them as well, they will never forget the times that mommy and daddy spent the whole day with them instead of having to go to school.
