while you were growing up

violeta by violeta Talking(February 2007) (rank 148th)
When I was born my father kept a newspaper from the same day and gave me an idea. When my sisters kids were born and later my son I got the news paper from the same day and continued to do that for every b'day, I also write down interesting things that happened the same year, popular music, movies. I keep this things in a box and I plan to do a book out of this thing and give it to them for their 21st b'day. So when they grow up they can read it and know what was going on in the world when they were born and on each of their b'day. My older nephew loves the idea and said to me that he cant wait to get it. I personaly love to see who else is born on the same day as me what else was going on on my b'day, how things change or say oh I remember this or I remember when I used to love that song. It is very personal and inexpencive gift.

Re: while you were growing up

My friend has done this for her children and she brought the paper for my first born, alas don't have them for the others.  An ex's Mum gave him something like this on his 21st with letters and photos of him growing up in it.  It was a great idea, i am planning to do a 'scrap book' like this for all of my children.  There was some funny stuff in there and it was such a crack up.

It's a great idea.   Thanks julie

you can try library for old news paper if they cant give you the newspapers just photo copy them, or try the news paper it self maybe they can help you out with ther archives (I did that for my older nephew as I wasnt in australia at the time I have a friend that worked for a news paper and he found me a copy he no longer workes there last I heard he worked for the jurnal in dandenong vic or I would have helped), even try on line most newspapers have an on line edition.

wow
Many publishers can provide you with a copy if you just call and ask for the specific date you are looking for. I've never done it, just seen the option advertised, so I don't know how far you can go back but it might be worth a try! :)

What a lovely idea! I regret not having the paper from the day Nicky was born. Oh well build a bridge. Thanks for the inspiration! This sounds like a beautiful present and so personal. I've missed the boat for the moment but i'll get onto it now and for the next little cherubs Thank you

That's a great idea. Is there anywhere people can go to to recover old newspapers? Thanks.
