Travel Tip

exquisite-flower by exquisite-flower Talking Back(February 2007) (rank 26th)
Sorry this is such a quickie, but I figured if I put it here it would reach the correct audience.  In my blog it will scroll in time and be lost to all.

People always laugh at me cuz I keep small 'tester' plastic containers; you know - the ones from cosmetics and various other bathroom products.  My mother has wasted hours trying to get me to bin them, and occasionally I do go through my collection and bin a few.  Tonight I find this is to my dismay.  We are going away for a week and I am packing our toiletries.  I dont need a full bottle of shower gel, so I decant some into my smaller bottle.  Same with my lotions and various other shampoos etc that we are taking.

Because E and I use different products I really need to carry each our own if we are away for more than a weekend.  So that is twice the bottles - eeeek!  This halves or more the space taken up in our bag.  In fact, I can fit the lot into our toiletry bag once they are all decanted.  However, I shall have to go without conditioner this time around because I have actually thrown away a couple of my lil bottles and am now one short.  Ah well, It is only for one week....

So when you are travelling regularly keep those little bottles - not the too small hotel ones, although they can be great for weekends away.  But for a week or 10 days the slightly bigger ones are great!  Of course, you know how much of a product you use and you may need to take the whole bottle even for a week, and some things like hair sprays cannot be decanted....lol....

I hope this helps some people with packing and saving space when travelling.
Peace

Little bottles
I have to agree with this one. Most people who are into travelling actually recommend taking little bottles instead of the large ones, or just using the shampoo, soap, etc of where ever you are staying (if it's available).

Little Bottles
You are so right about keeping a few of these little handy bottles around.  I like them because they are cute too.  I guess some companies got the idea to make travel sizes of things from moms lol.  It is so nice to have these handy when traveling because you never know if the bathrooms will have soap or tissue.  They are very handy for all sorts of things when you are traveling and spare you some room in your luggage in the process.  Great advice...thank you.

Great idea for the bottles

I never thought of this. I would just take the whole bottle with us and not think twice about putting some into a smaller bottle just for the few day's that we are just going away for. That's ideal. Thanks for that. Definately do this the next time i go away.

I do this too..
Also if you forget to re-pack and leave behind your normal sized bottles in a motel room or a caravan park, for exmple, then you have wasted a huge amount. Forgetting small bottles isn't so bad.

I do this too..
Too true mate,... that was one advantage that had never occured to me.  Having said that we rarely stay in motels now that I have e.  Such is the way life goes.

My Mum does this
My Mum is one of those who saves absolutely everything in case she can find a use for it one day!!!!
She already does this, I'm afraid to admit I am one of those people that thinks this is a fab idea but never get round to  doing it.
Maybe its because I am so laid back that any forward planning just doesn't enter into the sphere of my world
xx

My Mum does this
As with all things - if you need to do it you will get around to it.  it is just about prioritising things.  I love to travel and am often going to mum and dads or down your way, so it makes sense.  Before I had E I would go loads of other places as well, it made for light travelling which is always an advantage.  Carry a baby backpack that has all I need for the week to come in it.  Noone complained when I rolled up to visit minus the humungous suitcases.....lol

haha

I used to get laughed at for the same thing, and still do! I just make sure that i make a point of it when we are going away so P can see what a struggle it is to fit SO much into 1 toiletry bag!

great advice though! Essie...xox
