Manners Manners Manners

Anonymous Author (February 2007)
It is wonderful is it not when we and our children get complimented on their manners? All my children even the non biological ones have been praised for impeccable manners by teachers, parents, strangers and each other.I was bought up to use my manners at all times as I know most of us
have been.In turn I have always started automatically from an early age in the art of manners.I believe though that it is imperative to practice what we preach,of course you say this is commonsense..........Oh I agree, but lately I have been stressed about accomadation issues etc,so have been strung pretty tight.I was very annoyed with miss two and her dawdling over shutting the fly screen,in a fit of exasperation and irritation I burst out with"Oh for goodness sake Breanna shut the blimmen door".

She looked up at me with her big blue eyes and said Manners Mummy ouuuu say peeaasse sank-oouu.LOL I was stumped I havent been lost for words for ages LOL  I immediately crouched down to her level and said I am very sorry Breanna I will say shut the door please and you are so good for teaching MUMMY  her manners. she cuddled me and patted my shoulder informing me it's ok ouuuu are a good girwl now wuvleyy manners.I was indeed very well corrected on my lapse in manners.I have heard many adults in many situations not using manners  toward the younger members of our society.

I know we get caught up in the daily grind but how are we to teach manners if we dont in turn use them.I think using manners should be as natural as breathing.I am very careful and make sure I am very well mannered to shop assistants especially the new and/or young ones,It amazes me how much they appreciate it and give me more than 100% in service.I have even been commended by some of them and a comment that they wish more mature adults would do the same.I was a bit surprised. So remember guys little eyes are watching and little ears are listening.Thank-you for taking the time to read my article have a lovely evening hugs Merle

So much love
I love those moments where I am corrected not least because I know that E has learnt her manners well enough to be able to pass on this good learning to others.
Great article

Manners
I am so glad that there are still people around who are teaching their kids manners.  My daughter is always told she has brilliant manners at daycare or out visiting, and I know in the home she has always been good with her manners.  Good on you

Beautiful manners
Oh Merle, this made me cry. When you wrote what Breanna said, I cried tears of happiness. What an adorable little girl. She certainly knows her manners and likewise what she should expect from you. You must've been a bit heartbroken when she said this, I know I would be. Well done for this wonderful piece of advice. You always have inspiring tidbits of wisdom that'll assist any parent to bring out the best in their children. If we can be half as good a mum as you are we'll be on the way to being a great mum. You're beautiful!!

Manners
oooooowwwww She is such a little cutie......Isn't it amazing how one of our kids can remind us in such an innocent yet important way something we forget at that time......(if that makes sense hehehe) There is nothing worse than someone passing you in the shopping centre and just shoving past you without a word of when the kids friedns ring up and they ask for one of the kids without a please......Ken gives them one warning to say please and after that just sits there and then they remember heheheh.......Manners are really important for sure....Great article...

I agree!

We were just complimented yesterday on how polite my little guy was at the mall.

I find it a little shocking sometimes that people are so surprised, and mention to me all the time how nice it is to hear me speak politely with my son.

Now I'm also trying to speak properly.  Slang is a very hard habit to beak.  You never really realise how badly you speak until you hear your words from the mouth of a toddler.

I agree!
You are so right, we don't realize how badly we speak until we hear it back from the mouth of a toddler. However, as I'm getting older I'm finding my 'adult' children are the ones teaching me the bad habits... My language skills have 'gone to the dogs' on occasion with all the dreadful bits of slang I've picked up from them - I keep having to pull myself up before various expressions sink in..

LOL oh the sacrifices we make to keep abreast of the times LOL it is rotten when our older children influence and teach us bad habits LOL thanks Raine

I agree!
I feel sad that society finds manners and the use of them such a rarity............when in effect they should be 2nd nature,it never ceases to amaze me how shocked people are when Breanna says excuse me as she brushes past them.I know she is only 27 months but she can talk quite well and as such is capable of using simple manners.Thank-you for commenting on my article regards Merle

Manners
Another great article .
I too love manners, I find they are like smiles; free and great to give, and of course the person on the recieving end usually ends up happy.
I love getting comments about our manners when we are out and about but it such a shame that more people don't use them.

Oh Merle
She is just so cute. you must be so proud of her.
Totally agree with you about manners. I really can't stand bad manners
I have loads of eyes and ears about me too. But mine seem to be selective, they only hear what I try and keep away from them
Lovely article

isn't that the truth!
they learn so much more by example than by being told, and sometimes the best way to teach our children is to learn ourselves.
