Good oral hygiene habits, start early |

How to clean baby's tongue? Is it even necessary?
Establish good oral hygiene habits early. We all hate furry tongues. The tongue is part of the mouth and should receive the same attention as the teeth and gums. I have a routine with my children which I
started from the moment the pegs began to errupt. Before this, I used a damp wash cloth, moving on to a rubber brush then onto a soft bristled brush and finally a child's toothbrush.
Under top teeth, top of bottom teeth, behind teeth then say cheese and do teeth and gums. Stick out your tongue and I brush it. The first few times is a funny thing for them and they are reluctant to keep their tonuge out, but little fuss and repeating the same thing everytime we brush, soon finds them happy to comply.
Sometimes they want to brush their own teeth, and that is fine, but we need to still ensure it's done correctly. Teeth cleaning rituals can easily be turned into a dilemma, so avoid conflct by having two toothbrushes on hand. One for them to hold and one for the parent.
