Busy Baby Fingers Love to Play with Buttons

pfallerj by pfallerj Proud Parent(February 2007) (rank 1st)
Today's first time parenting tip - Anything with a button or something your baby can press should be a big hit

Our son is getting to the age where he can actually start interacting and using his toys for what they were 'meant' to do. This will make them
last quite a bit longer than if he kept picking them up and throwing them onto the kitchen floor.

We noticed that his favorite things to do were to press the buttons on our alarm clock, play with our cell phones whenever he could get his hands on them, and play with the volume control on his Leap Pad.

We've added a few more button-having toys to the mix and those are clearly his favorites. The big winner is a LeapFrog Phonics Radio that lets you flip pages AND hit buttons to hear letter songs AND play guess the letter. He's in baby heaven.

Why?
What is it about buttons that kids love? My daughter loves to push buttons. It doesn't even have to achieve anything she would still push buttons. At 1 and a half she could open the dvd player put in her dvd, usually hi-5, push it in and press play. She learnt this from watching us do it. We never taught her. Now we have put the dvd higher and out of the reach of busy fingers.

Babies and Buttons...
My sons are the same way.  They are 4 and 2 and the most recent acheivement with button pushing was crashing daddy's computer.  We could not retrace what was hit and had to completely restore the whole pc.  Fortunately daddy had just finished recovering it from whatever button he had pushed the previous day lol.  Thanks for sharing your story with us.  It's nice to see that no matter where we are in this world, we all experience similar things.  Have a wonderful day.

V smiles are great B got one for xmas. He is another one that loves buttons mostly those on the tv(at a critical point) and pushes them AFTER he hides the remote (usually in the toy box). Great advice.
