Pampers Vs. Huggies

pfallerj by pfallerj Proud Parent(February 2007) (rank 100th)
Today's first time parenting tips - Pampers are the best kind of diapers for preventing bowel blowouts. Every bit as disgusting as it sounds.

Usually I'm pretty brand agnostic. If there are two biggies out there, like Coke and Pepsi, or McDonald's or Burger King, I switch between the
two pretty freely. There's rarely a discernible difference that makes me want to pick one over the other.

Maybe you're thinking the same way about diapers. Which one to choose? Huggies or Pampers? Both probably the same, right?

Wrong. We bought a box of Huggies instead of the usual Pampers (we usually buy based on coupons or sales, and Pampers just always seems to be cheaper). We've never had a problem with bowel blowouts (no explanation needed), chafing or discomfort before.

Once we threw those Huggies on, we got all three. Stuff would leak, his legs would be red and raw, and sometimes he just seemed generally uncomfortable. I don't know why it was or what's different, but there was a definite change from one brand to the other.

Now he's back in Pampers, and he's back to normal. So if you're trying to choose between the two and want a recommendation from me, I say Pampers.

Anyone else had a similar or different experience?

Re: Pampers Vs. Huggies
I always used towelling squares.  No problems with leaks, rashes, discomfort, and no having to watch which one was cheaper each week either!  Ok, so I was doing a nappy change every half hour, but shouldn't we be changing with every wee or poo anyway and not letting them sit in it? I think it's gross that people leave a wet nappy on a baby because they have only done 1 or 2 wees and it's not wet through yet but that's just me

Nappies

I've pretty much tried them all. I now tend to get either Snugglers or Baby Love whatever is cheaper at the time. I have always found them great, I only ever had a problem with Snugglers once so I rang the company and explained what had happened and that I've been using them for X amount of time without any other problems, well they sent me out a box of nappies no charge.......

However when my boys were quite little I used Huggies because they could hold more liquid.

it depends on the age

when my son was a newborn we liked pampers swaddlers, it's the only thing that saves us from pants explosion. now that he's older, we use huggies natural fit with hug flex and it works really well.

ive tried all the brands in aust
but i prefer huggies, cos there is no leakage, and you can put the tabs over each other. the other brands would leak, and the tabs wont go on top of each other, making it harder to do up.

What other brands are out there?
I did post this knowing our Aussie friends probably don't have the same brand Americans do. What kinds do you guys swear by?

I haven't really seen too many environmentally friendly ones up here in the States (maybe I shop at the wrong places) and I'd definitely consider buying them if they were worth it. Anyone know of any?

Pampers rare in Aus
Rarely see Pampers for sale. We are in Australia.
I used to use Huggies. We use cloth now (its easier cheaper etc)
If I was to use disposable now I wouldn't use Huggies. maybe Ecobots or enviro nappies.

Huggies are all about money - profit. They are not unlike Nestle in that they go into 3rd world countries and try to snag a profit with no thought for people. The way people parent in these countries has been working for so long (namely breastfeeding and using cloth or no nappy at all) and Westerners think they are better?! Civililsation isn't about money.
Anyway just a thought for those who are concerned about these things.

When I visited Australia, I could not find Pampers anywhere... So I am guessing they are a rare thing down your way... :)

Huggies.. My favorite
Personally I like Huggies better.. I have not had any problems with them at all. Only time it leaked on us was when she pooped alot and other than that I've had no problems at all.
Another reason why your son might of got red legs is because he's not used to that type of diaper. I usually stick with what I got her when she was first born.
Now I did use pampers in the hospital because that's what they gave us to use when she was in the SCU and I hated them, they did not work at all.. But I guess everyone has their own decision!!
Huggies is my vote too!!

Pampers vs Huggies
In the states I exclusively used Huggies after trying several different other cheaper brands and tired of cleaning the messes, I just stuck with the brand that worked best for me.  In the end, I was paying the same, if not more because I had to end up buying more frequently the cheaper brand.  Unfortunately, and I have no idea why, Huggies here in Lebanon is not the same quality as the Huggies I had grown to love in the states.  So, after trying the cheaper brands here and the end results being much like the incidents that happened in the states, I am a Pampers user now.  Pampers here have proven to be strong, reliable and I have little issues with diaper rashes.  I am not sure if it is the area and maybe how they are made but Pampers beats Huggies in my opinion in the country of Lebanon.  But in the states, Huggies gets my vote as it diapered all 3 of my children, my oldest now being 15.  Great post!

Pampers for sure

Pampers are not currently available in Australia.

I am registered with a company called Research International who sometimes contact me to do nappy trials for them. I just finished a trial of Pampers vs Huggies and the Pampers were the best by a mile.

If Pampers were sold here I would switch in an instant!!

nappy brands.
Stuck with Huggies. Were very satisfied. Tried Snugglers once, and quite disappointed in the quality. Even one time when my son had gastro, the Huggies only leaked a little on the elastic of the leg, considering the contents of the nappy, I was most impressed. I guess it's all down to personal preference.

Nappies
I'm a huggie's girl all the way! I tried the cheaper brands to save money but ended up with hideous amounts of washing. Do we get pampers here?? Anyway I found snugglers didn't fit very well and baby love leak and left bits of the gel stuff from the inside all over his bum.

Different brands

I had noticed this also in some nappies ( diapers ) and we found the cheaper brand were always more comfortable etc for her to wear. But she now doesn't wear them, but when she was in nappies, the dearer brand always did the uncomfortable etc thing to her.
