Quitting Smoking For Your Kids...YES YOU CAN!!

CdnNascarGirl by CdnNascarGirl Walking(February 2007) (rank 500+)

Ok, so I guess I did it! I am now a non smoker. I listened to my kids bitch about my smoking for so long and being the stubborn, hard headed person that I am I refused for the longest time until one day I realized that, if I got

cancer and died who would be here to pester the crap out of my kids?? There is no one that can bug kids, especiall mine any better than me!

It's been a little over a year since I quit smoking and I am not going to mix words here. It was not easy. I don't care who tells you what, no matter how you choose to quit it never leaves you. It is like being a recovering alcoholic, you can't have one and think you will be a "casual smoker", it doesn't work like that. I used Smoke Away herbs, I only needed them for 2 days and then used nothing but I do not reccomend that. I can't use the patch as I am allergic to it and Zyban is to expensive, we just recently got the lozenges in Canada so for me there wasn't a whole lot of choice in what to use.

I went through some awful mood swings. My poor kids didn't know what was going on. One minute they had nice mom and then evil mom came out...I felt like Sybol. Thank god my kids are teenagers and I could explain it was all from quitting smoking and they could also read a lot on the internet so they had a clue what was going on. I felt like the airline stewardess on the Nicoderm commercial, that was my evil twin most days.

Today I feel good about my decision and very happy that I can be considdered a non smoker now. My daughter who has allergies and asthma doesn't mind getting in the car with us now, it doesn't smell like an ashtray! Our house was saved as we stopped smoking in the house about 7 years ago...

To anyone who is planning on quitting...start with cutting down first, then make yourself go outside for every smoke, no matter how cold or rainy it is, don't smoke in the car. I did this and found it much easier to quit once I set my mind to it.

Your kids will appreciate you more knowing you will be around for them in the years to come, even if you just plan on being there to pester them, LOL!!

Smoking

I'm an occasional smoker, and i usually can stop when ever i feel like it, and i only smoke while my daugher's at kindy, and that's only usually one smoke and while she's in bed and i don't have any more than 3.

There are days where i don't have any as some of the time i don't feel like it.

Good on you though for quitting. It's hard isn't it?

Great Achievement
I remember how hard it is & will never go back! I gave up about 15 years ago now & have never looked back. My ex would only allow me to 'roll my own' in those days, as smokes had just gone over AU$2 a pack (What a laugh - How much are they NOW) Anyhow I went pretty much 'cold turkey' - As an EMERGENCY 'last resort' there were 2 smokes 'hidden' in the house that I had to hunt down if I really wanted one... The fancy filter that he'd gotten me had been chucked out, so you could really taste the horrid things.. uggh, they were so yucky! For a few days I did Search & Locate those hidden ones... would light them up, take a few drags, put em out & save the rest for later... It's amazing the places you can hide things! However, thankfully it wasn't that long before I broke the habit for good.  Today I can't handle being near people who smoke & if the smell gets in my clothes when I'm out, my clothes are off the moment I enter my front door & into the wash... Memories!
