BREAKING NEWS

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(February 2007) (rank 12th)
I just wanted to share some news that happened her in Calgary that I think that parents need to be re reminded about.

At the beginning of the week this mother decided she was gonna just run into the store and leave her two kids in
the car.  The kids were a 6 year old boy and a 2 year old girl (in her car seat).  The little girl started screaming so the boy took her seat belt off of here.  The boy then feel asleep and the little girl climbed out of her car seat and went to the window.  She opened the window stuck her head out and ended up closing the window on her head causing her to stop breathing and pass out.  A person walking by noticed the child and ran to get her, got the window opened and noticed she needed help right away.  The women placed the baby in her car seat and ran in to the store to call an ambulance.  During this time the mother came out of the store and drove away.  She didn't notice the baby wasn't breathing and the child died by the time the mother noticed.

My advice is no matter how long you think you are gonna be in the store it isn't worth losing your child's life.   You may think it cant happen to you, but I bet that is what that mother thought also and now he daughter who was suppost to be 2 yesterday is no longer with her.  Anything can happen so please remember this really sad story the next time you want to run in to the store for a second.   Sorry if you think this was not advice but I wanted to share with you all so this kind of thing doesn't happen to you.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

I've stated this in a previous thread but even if your child isn't old enough to open doors or pull hand breaks don't do it!! Some baby seats cut off a baby's/toddler's air supply when they nod off and rest their neck on the straps. A few minutes of your undivided attention can be lethal!

Very Sad
I have a hard time when I hear stories like this because there really is no excuse for leaving your children in the car at such an young age.  And to not even check on your children when you return to the car is really bad too.  Children are alot of work and if you have to go out, if you feel you can not take them into the store then it's best to reschedule your trip or ask someone to go to the store for you, have a friend or neighbor you trust watch them for a short time.  Any number of solutions are out there.  Really good advice:  Never ever leave your children unattended in a vehicle.  This situation could have been prevented.  I wish that person that found her would have just taken her into the store to get help.  Thank you for the reminder.

it makes me sick
What the hell does parents think by doing that. They will save a few minutes by leaving the kids in the car or will not disturb their routine what on earth could be more important than a child. I did not even hear about that accident on the new in ontario, canada. They should pay more attention on telling news like that than wasting our time with Anna nicole smith news. I would prefer saving young lifes by talking about it on the news, they are so innocent those children. Poor little angel.

What bad luck to have this happen the day before she turned two.... The mum should have known better...

I don't even go in to pay for my petrol without my kids......Its too easy for something to happen......

I cant imagine how both the mum and little boy feel....

There is the website with the news paper artical just so you can read it word for word.  She was at her work not shopping.  I pretty much got all the facts straight but if you wanna read it there it is.  It is really sad and the 6 year old boy is gonna have some problems when he is older.  He is gonna blame himself maybe.

Heard about it

I heard about it and personally I think the mother should be getting charged.. TOOO many times this has been happening in Calgary. I always watch the news and no matter what, I keep hearing about this.

HOW CAN PARENTS DO THAT TO THEIR CHILDERN/CHILD? No matter how long you are gonna be, you should always take them with you!!!!

But they should have strict laws for parents who do this.. (leave their child in the car and think nothing can happen) but guess what.. you're right Marlena, IT CAN!! And it has to stop. I was digusted on how a mother could do this to their child.. No offense to anyone here that does it, but if you get caught, you will pay the price!!

I really think that there should be a number you can call to report these things.  I wonder if you can just call 911 if you see a child in a car so that we can prevent stuff like this from happening.  I think that Calgary is a to fast moving city.  No one has patients and wants to do things the quick way.  You can just tell this by the drivers and when people have to wait in line longer then they want.  Parents want things done fast and this is what happens.

Heard about it

I have learnt that things can't go fast when you have kids.. No matter what, expecially if you are in a hurry.

I do agree.. No one has patients in Calgary.. They are always in a rush to get somewhere and they just don't think.. Thank god I'm not actually from here or unless I'd be one of them HAHAHAH!!

I do wish there was a number that you can call when you see thing's like this.. Remember when we worked at Rona, someone left their kids in the car, went somewhere in the mall and hours later they return to see Cops at the stolen car they had?? And social services was there.. I wish the cops acted that fast like they did then.. Now cops don't give a shit so it seems! And that is sad.. Real sad because something real bad could happen, just like what happened 2 days ago...
