My favorite kid question is...

jenlemen by jenlemen Young Parent(February 2007) (rank 4th)
Have we hugged yet today?

It doesn't matter if we already have or not.  Just asking the question gives me a chance to connect once more with my school-age kids whose lives are getting busier by the second.  Most of the time my kids will happily
jump into my arms, no matter what the answer--but just in case they say "yes, I have!" it opens the door for me to say with a twinkle in my eye--"I'm sorry but one hug is just not enough!"

I believe that kids never get tired of affection--no matter how old they are--as long as the lines of communication and connection stay nurtured between child and parent.  It's my goal to keep reinforcing those bonds--even when my children are well into their teen years.  Doesn't your heart melt when you see a gangly teenage boy who still tries to lay on his mother's lap or smother her with his hugs?  Aren't you ever longing to be a kid again and sit on your own mother's lap?

What's your favorite kid question to keep the connection strong between you and your child?  You can list your questions in the comments below.

Can I sit with you?

This lets me know that my 4 year old still needs her mommy (even though she's growing up so fast). Every night she loves to sit with me and hold my hand and kiss my cheeks.  It's makes a bad day, fade away so quickly!

Reinforcing bonds
Is very important it keeps your relationships within your arms and hugs and kisses are always important. My oldest son still hugs and kisses both his dad and myself, so does my oldest daughter although its getting harder with our grandy almost here  our youngest son is like his brother but we dont get to see him as much as we'd like and the youngest still hugs and air kisses and thats better than nothing. All their lives we encouraged a closeness and connectedness with ourselves and as young adults they have let us know that we provided them with the love and support they needed to develop as individuals but still be caring. My oldest popped in and said he was going to drive back this morning 200km to work, he said no point rushing because his job is rain affected and hed text when he got there, I said but if you leave later how will I know you havent carked it on the way if you're supposed to leave at 5...he said as all kids do that wont happen.... 5am I got a txt leaving l8ter mum....  and I know Ill get one when he goes and when he arrives, work was washed out for the day.

My Favourite Kid Question!!
Mine are more like statements but mean the same thing either way..... "mummy i want you" & "i want cuddles" this is from my 2 1/2 year old (in pic on right) who along with saying this brings along his dummy and wrap (cuddle blankie). It's soooo cute and hope it never stops!!!

i had to come back to this article
my partner has the coolest thing going with our four year old.... he has taught him a handshake and to say "word G" when it's finished and then they have a word battle to see who's the loudest and the coolest... and finishes up with what they call a stuck cuddle.... they basicly squash eachother :)'s it always makes me laugh...  it's the best when our son goes looking for daddy to start it...

My favourite Kid question
Along with "have we hugged today" I find the following question, maybe not my favourite, but certainly one that I am happy to receive :  Mum, can we have a chat?  This is specially welcome from teenagers.  It shows me that our lines of communication are still open and functioning.  I have to admit that I  do not alway like what we discuss, but that is not the point!  The point is that they are happy to discuss things with me, even when they know that it might not be what I would like to hear.

Guess What?
That is our question.  Often it is answered with a 'What?' 'I love you' which naturally leads to cuddles and kisses.  Sometimes she beats me to it and answers 'I love you too' before I even say any more.
Peace

that's even better!  yesterday carter asked me if we'd hugged yet, so i think it's fantastic when the kids know the game enough to turn it around and use it back on you!  that's the best.

A Good one to research

A woman from my stich-n-bitch club told a great story the other day. Her son was in a playground debate with a pal about how many gods there were. He had just watched the animated movie Hercules and thought there was a pantheon of gods. The kid he was arguing with was going the Judeo-Christian route and advocating for on big god.

The kid came home and asked his mom "Mom, how many gods are there, and is god even real?" His mom, who is an atheist hummed and hawed for a moment. In the pause her kid nudged her with his elbow and said, "I know Mom...just google it!"

great
My question to my 2 1/2 is, how much does mummy love you? She answers this much, with her arms spread wide. This then leaves me open to give her a great big hug. And answer with, your arms aren't big enough for how much mummy loves you. She loves it.

I dont really have one.....
Hmmmm I really dont...I usually just grab my kids and tell them they are gorgeous or something like that and give them a hug and yes as I cuddle my 6 foot frame into my 16 year olds chest he rests his chin on my head and gives me a hug...They are still so gorgeous when they are older as they were when they were little.....I love hugs and all my kids hug me and tell me they love me in front of their mates too which is a bonus hehe.....
Cheers
Angie

not so much a question
i try to keep my kids in a routine where they brush there teeth, along with myself before bed, makes for good together time and a chat.  Then its PJ time and into bed where they both get there back rubbed for a bit each.  I also like to encourage talking during dinner time, teaches them not to speak with a mouthful and they also feel included in discussions.  I also like to take them out to a restaurant once a month, they then learn how to eat out, using manners, being polite, etc.  Also learning what all the cutlery is for.
