The old games are the best aren't they?
All the ones you used to play as a child yourself
When your children are too old for these games, what can you do?
How about you put a twist on them
Hide and Seek in the dark!!!!!
Exactly what it says in the title
The other night there was no homework to do, the boys were a bit hyper after a weekend away with their dad so my daughter and I decided to have some fun!
We suggested Hide and Seek with a twist!!
This is played in the exact same way as your regular Hide and Seek
One person leaves the room and the others all hide away, only this time all the lights are turned off so the room is in complete darkness, my favourite hiding place was to sit in the corner armchair!!! When the 'counter' gets to 50 they tell you they are coming and turn out the one light that was left on for them, this way when they walk into the darkened room there is no light allowed to shine in behind them.
The 'counter' walks in and trys to find the others, the first person they find is the 'counter' next time.
We had fantastic fun with this, it was actually quite scary but at the same time you knew you were safe, you would just expect someone to bump into you or tap you as a way of finding you.
Hiding in the dark was the easy part, trying to find everyone knowing that they could sense where you were and could hear you was more scary.
My children loved this game
Pointers to Remember
When playing games like this, make sure you have made the room safe before turning out the lights.
No Hot Drinks lying around
No sharp Objects
No Loose table lights for example which may get smashed causing injuries
No glasses which could be knocked over
No rugs sticking up in awkward places where you could trip
Be Sensible
If one of your children is getting over excited or even starting to show fear, then stop the game
Calm everyone down
If you child is upset then do not restart the game with the others
Don't let siblings accuse the upset child of spoiling their fun
MOST IMPORTANTLY ........ JOIN IN!
Games with Children are a fantastic way of bonding, getting to know your child and sharing a fun part of your relationship
So the next time you want to entertain your children but they tell you they are too old for games
Revisit the memory banks of games you used to play and then crank it up to an acceptable level for older children
Its great fun
And much better than playing video games or watching TV all night
