The puzzle of smart kids

Vicki by Vicki Speaking(March 2007) (rank 497th)

I'll never forget the rainy day my younger brother, Eliot and I got a "Rubik's Cube".  He solved it in less than an hour and I never did.  I still get annoyed thinking about it!  How on earth did he figure it out?

Are puzzles an indicator of higher intelligence? Maybe. My brother loved puzzles and he is one of the smartest people I know. He's now a successful banker (chance or coincidence?).

Of course, my Rubik's Cube went by the wayside and I chose to focus my energy in more important arenas like books and paper dolls.  Whether your child loves puzzles or not, our philosophy is that child play remains simple and timeless.

Our family loves classic games and toys . Some of our new favorites include:

* Memory Games
* Parcheesi
* Card Games

I'd love to know what games do your kids love to play with?

Uno
My 6yr old is the Uno king. For Christmas I got him the new Uno Spin so we are into that for now. He also loves Bingo, Chess and Draughts. I love board and card games and it looks like he we too. Luckily he catches on pretty quick.
I used to put apart my Rubik's Cube too!

Rubiks cube
What a revolting memory that darn rubik's cube was! I cheated big time. At first, I used to peel all the coloured stickers off and put them back so that each side had the one colour, but then they lost their 'sticky' after a while. When I got a new one (much to my dismay), my older brothers taught me how to actually pull it all apart and reassemble it to it's former perfect state. Now THAT was fun!!!

Rubiks cube
So funny...I HATED Rubiks cube still do!    Still do not think it is any indication of HIGHER intelligence...more of an indicator of one's level of patience which I have zilch!

Hello.
Hello.
Good to know.  My son loves puzzles and especially loves building buildings out of blocks.  As a kid we use to play Go Fish (card game).  Your article gave me an idea.  I am going to teach my son how to play Go Fish.
