Capturing Family Life in Photographs- Idea #2

tracey by tracey Young Parent(March 2007) (rank 10th)
Part of a series of ideas to help any parent take endearing and meaningful pictures of their kids.

Idea #2- It’s in the Details

The big picture of raising children can feel overwhelming at times. Breaking down  the day-to-day into smaller parts can

help give a little perspective and make things feel less daunting. This idea can also be true in shooting photos of our kids. We often shoot the big picture and often miss the details. A nice head and shoulders portrait of our children is what normally comes to mind when we think about taking a picture of our children. But, what about the little details that make them unique? What about the freckle on their cheek, the curl of their hair, or the way they rub their feet together when they watch TV. Every child is different and each has details about them that no other child shares.

Try to think about the unique (and even sometimes quirky) qualities of your child that you might like to capture in a photo. It’s not always easy but the results can be so rewarding. Like most things, your child will probably grow out of most of these little things and if you have them in a photograph, you will never forget these endearing details of life with your child.

Ooh this is a goody...
Jaydee has these strawberry birthmarks - I used to think they were annoying as full grown adults (who should know better) would go on about them.  Little kids were so cute, worried that he had hurt himself.  Now they are disappearing, I will capture them before they are gone forever.

oh dear
why is it that when I read this I thought that I should be taking pictures of Ethan's bumps and bruises to remind him of how crazy he was at this age?

Family Life in Photos

So very true and it's so important to them when they get older.  My poor husband has absolutely nothing from his childhood because of parental breakup and moving etc and it's really sad because we have nothing to show our kids what great things he did growing up.

I on the other hand have so many photos of me that we don't know where to start lol.   My kids will be the same I love taking photos and have heaps of them and really wanted to be able to have them stored properly so that they never lost their quality and never got damaged and I found the perfect way to do it so their lives will forever be available for generations to come.  They think it's great.
