Has anyone hear ever heard of the eye disease "Keratoconus"....if so could you please give me some info?
I have been told that i need to have some tests done to check for them, as my eyes are of poor quality!
I can see fine, but if i don't tackle what is affecting me now, my sight may be worsened (apparently) by the age of 25!
Keratoconus is a degenerative eye disease that is caused by the thinning and changing shape of the cornea. In many patients the cornea takes on a cone shape rather than the gradual curve of a normal eye. (see pic 1)
Symptoms can include such things as blurred vision and seeing multiple objects (see pic 2) along with sensitivity to light and changing of eye shape.
Treatment consists of prescription lenses or contact lenses, and in extreme cases medical intervention may be necessary.
Most cases are reported to be diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 30. It's very rare for a person to become completely blind from this condition, but in some cases eyesight may deteriorate to legal blindness, but not complete blindness.
There is a group called the National Keratoconus Foundation that I thought you might find useful.
Thanks to the following sites for providing me with the information stated in this advice:
National Keratoconus Foundation, Wikipedia, and Keratoconus Australia.
I really hope this helps mate.
