Illegal drugs and Teens...Mescaline...

cookclan by cookclan Young Parent(March 2007) (rank 7th)
Mescaline (Peyote and San Pedro Cacti)

Hi there I'm sure people think I have nothing better to do than sit down and write about drugs all day but this is not my reason behind these articles...You see I have seven children all of them growing up quickly in this
world...The amount of drugs out there scare me and I have a thirst for knowledge on them so I can answer any of the questions my kids ask and give them the right information about these things...I do Believe by telling kids about the dangers that if they are offered these drugs then they can make an infomed choice...Hopefully that will be to say no...On saying  that here is the next drug in the series of illegal drugs and teens...

Mescaline is a dark brown coloured powder made from buttons of the Mexican cactus peyote...Mescaline is the active chemical in peyote and this drug was named after the Mescalero Apaches of the American great plains...It has had religious uses for years with them...

the street names for this drug are...Peyoto, buttons, plants, devil weed and Mesc....

Mescaline can be taken either orally or it can be injected...The average dose of this lasts anywhere between 5 and 12 hours in the user... Mescaline is very bitter and quiet yuck to taste on its own so it is often put in coffee, milk, tea soft drink and or orange juice...The peyote button is vile and fibrous to taste...

Mescaline has  hallucinogenic effects and as with other hallucinogens you can have a good trip or a bad trip...the user has effects like lose of sense of time, perception, disorganised thoughts and psychotic reactions...This is on its own a danger to the user and people around...Mescaline in small doses effects the heart by speeding it up and raising your blood pressure...it makes your pupils dialate and raises you blood sugar level, it brings on high temperatures with heavy perspiration and even makes the user feel sick...Now if the user uses a large dose it lowers the blood glucose this can cause the user to have a bloody diarrhea and to lose consciousness...A little more and an overdose occurs the side eefects of an overdose are breathing problems heart failure convulsions and death...

Mescaline is habit forming just like most drugs...In other words there is not a physical dependance but it can cause a body tolerence and a dependance in someones mind...The feeling of I need that drug...

This is another dangerous drug I wanted to share with you all...

Have a great day
Cheers
Angie

Re: Illegal drugs and Teens...Mescaline...

I'd like to correct this article, in the effort to keep people informed and not misinformed.

"Mescaline has  hallucinogenic effects and as with other hallucinogens you can have a good trip or a bad trip...the user has effects like lose [sic] of sense of time, perception, disorganised thoughts and psychotic reactions...This is on its own a danger to the user and people around."

Compare this to wikipedia (about Mescaline): "Hallucinations produced by mescaline are somewhat different from those of LSD. Hallucinations are consistent with actual experience, but are typically intensifications of the stimulus properties of objects and sounds. Prominence of color is distinctive, appearing brilliant and intense."

"..Mescaline in small doses effects the heart by speeding it up and raising your blood pressure...it makes your pupils dialate and raises you blood sugar level, it brings on high temperatures with heavy perspiration and even makes the user feel sick..."

This is probably true but I haven't heard about it anywhere else.

"Now if the user uses a large dose it lowers the blood glucose this can cause the user to have a bloody diarrhea and to lose consciousness...A little more and an overdose occurs the side eefects of an overdose are breathing problems heart failure convulsions and death..."

STOP! there is ONE "unconfirmed (and unconfirmable) report of a person who died during military experiments with [mescaline], after receiving a 15 gram dose intravenously (or about 150-200mg/kg).

In experiments with rats, the LD50 for mescaline has been established in the range of 800-1200mg/kg orally.

Considering the human dose of mescaline is around 200-500mg orally, this means you would have to try very hard to take a fatal dose. It would be extremely unlikely to happen accidentally.
" (Erowid: Can mescaline Kill?)

"Mescaline is habit forming just like most drugs...In other words there is not a physical dependance but it can cause a body tolerence and a dependance in someones mind...The feeling of I need that drug..."

Mescaline is a hallucinogen, and like most hallucinogens it is not considered more addictive than say ... chocolate. The only addictive quality of LSD and "shrooms" is the "this was fun, I wanna do it again" factor. And Mescaline is rarely described as fun, and most often said to be intensely profound. Itðs proponent's include the great mind of Aldous Huxley who wrote "Brave New World" and - concerning LSD and Mescaline - "The Doors of Perception" (Fun Fact: The rock band "The Doors" were named after this essay).

I understand what you are trying to do, drugs like cocaine, heroin, amphetamine, meth, E, nicotine and alcohol ARE dangerous and psychedelics CAN be dangerous... what teenagers really need to understand is that they are NOT party drugs and should be used to explore and try to understand the mind, soul, universe, truth and help yourself ... (see psychonautics) OR to enhance creativity.

ok...

Very well said MadMel. I do totally agree with you here. Angie does alot of research in her articles, that's why they're so good. I've always given her 5 stars, as she's got a way with words, and does find out the full facts first.

well done on the article! my mum was a drug and alcohol councilor when i was a teenager and at one time i thought about tryin ecstacy at a party i told my mum as she believes in harm minamisation aswell(giving information to ppl so they at least know the consequences and the safest ways about taking drugs) she told me to hold off a few days gave my some panphlets asked me to not do it but left me with my decision, i read through the information and there was a story about a girl called anna, i never took drugs and i thank my mum for being helpfull and lettin me make my own choice, she could have banned me from going to the party but i probably wouldve just taken it next time. i think u r doin g a great thing by your kids.

That is what I have told my kids too....I tell them I do not want them to do them but in the end it is theri choice...i then tell them of the way to protect themselves the best they can if they do use them...Your mum was very wise...Kids have to make choices and if we tell them NO from a young age they do it anyway don't they? Thanks for your comment and have a great day...
