An idea for someone wondering what to buy for a baby shower gift.

monyq83 by monyq83 Young Parent(March 2007) (rank 12th)

For some reason whilst I was having a shower just now, I had a flashback of just after I had had my first son. I was still numb from the anaesthetic and laying on the bed in the delivery room. The doctor had just stitched me up and boy was I in a mess. I looked and felt gross.

Then a nurse walked in. "You ready to go have a shower?" "Ha!" was my reply. "I cant move!" My legs just didnt want to cooperate. She tried lifting me up to stand and walk to the shower, and..... nothing. So off she went to get a sponge and a bucket so she could give me a sponge bath instead.

I'll never forget the wierdness of having a woman wash my private parts. So so so wierd lol. But Ive gotta say, I was so grateful to my mum as she bought me the most lovely present before I had Nathen, its something so simple yet it really made my (very uncomfortable) day. It was soap. Youre probably thinking Mony you idiot, why are you bothering to write advice about soap, but seriously, it wasnt your normal Imperial Leather stuff you can get at Woolies, this was the most lovely smelling soap Ive ever smelt. I think she got it from the body shop or something like that. She also got me the softest face washer she could find, and some talcum powder. Even the nurse commented on how nice the soap was. And from feeling like I had been hit by a mack truck after the birth of my son, I went to feeling like a million bucks. All from a cake of soap.  Its amazing how nice you can feel after something traumatic, just by having a relaxing bath/shower/sponge bath, whatever the case may be.

So in case youre wondering what to buy for that baby shower you have just been invited to, by all means get the baby something, but dont forget about the new mum. Something as simple as a nice cake of soap could make her day.

do not forget mum
OH, how wonderful you brought this up ! A long distance cousin sent me a care package when I was pregnant ... things for baby, but hey ... wait a minute ... THINGS FOR ME ! How refreshing that was ! When all I got from others was baby stuff (which was all greatly appreciated, don't get me wrong) ... but it was so refreshing and wonderful for momma to get something too ! Soaps, lotions, a bath robe ... comforts for momma ! When momma is happy all are happy ! From what I experienced, the next time I get invited to a baby shower celebration, I WILL REMEMBER MOMMA ! ... Momma has had a hard, long nine months and needs to feel fresh and pretty ! Oh, thank you for mentioning this ! What a wonderful idea to remember !

top idea
I like to smell nice in the hospital as hospitals always smell like... well hospitals! I always find comfort in having my undies on after c-sections, some nurses really kick up a stink about it as i cant do it my self (D'OH) And they have to thread the catheter through, Im like big deal! but it sure beets them putting pads on under me and having to change my sheets every time they look at me.

Soap

WOW - Sounds like an ideal girft for me . . . I hated the spongedown too and i'm sure if i had had the lovely smelly soap i would have felt like a million dollars.

Its amazing how the simplest things in life give us the most pleasure.

Cheers Kellz

shower gifts- love it
i really think that a simple gift like that is just the thing one needs after giving birth (piss'n a watermelon, as kiall says hehe) dont ya just hate those med staff who tell ya to get up straight away though... you'd think there was a que for the bed hey...lol.. i also think that the idea of getting the support person and daddy a gift (by cazza) is a good one too as the daddy often gets left out in these circumstances poor thing :)... great idea aniwaiz :)'s for you

baby shower gifts
Sounds like a excellent idea... we all get excited about when the baby arrives, but i think it is important to remember the mums at this special time.....Even when the bub is born, i think it would be nice to buy mum a present as well, and dad if he is in involved as well.....

i think so too, as most of the time its just as stressful (mentally and emotionally not physically of course lol) for the father and/or support person too lol
