Drugs and teens... Goodluck on educating your kids on the dangers of non illegal drugs and subtances...

cookclan by cookclan Young Parent(March 2007) (rank 10th)
Hi there this is just a sum up article of the series drugs and teens...In this series I also included things like No Doz, Energy drinks and Inhalents...There is alot of outside influences when raising our children when they are young but as they become tweens and teens this also includes
their friends...Peer pressure can be such a hard thing for kids to cope with...Giving in a little to peer pressure is not necessarily a bad thing...Sometimes kids change their clothes or their hair to "fit in" but their are some kids who will tell yours they should try some of these dangerous things...Some kids also believe that because these things are easier to get and are not illegal that they are okay to use or try....

I have said in my sum up article for illegal drugs and teens why I wrote these articles and again this was similar to my reasons for these ones...I think as time goes by I will probably add to this lot of articles as new dangers to our children become used, tried and available...

I think, as I have said before that talking to your kids about all of these things can do nothing but help your relationship and the communication...Parents have buried their children from chroming, dusting (which was an article written by LaRenae )and diet pills and many of the other dangers linked below...Teach your children that just because its not illegal doesn't mean it isnt dangerous when used in the wrong way...

I know after reading these that alot of people might think that I am pessimist thinking that these things can be dangers to your children...But I would think myself that I am a realist...There is alot of information on the internet to prove the things that I have said in these articles and I do believe that we need to look at some of the information provided and think just maybe we can help our kids to say NO...No matter what anyone else tells them about them...

I hope you have gotten some information out of these articles to help you well on your way to talking to your kids about dangers with misuse of drugs and other substances  in your cupboards...Hopefully I have helped some people who thought burying your head in the sand and pretending your child will definately not do these see the light and question their attitude towards drugs and their kids...

We can not stop our kids from trying drugs no matter what information we give them...But what we can do is give them all the information they need to make an informed decision with the correct information from us, their parents...Good luck with raising your teens I know I will need it too...hehe but I also think I am going in alot more prepared myself after both these series I have written....Raising teens are hard enough without closing our eyes to the dangers of experimentation...

Lastly I will leave you with my second favourite quote...
Parents of teenage children NOW understand why some animals eat their young!!!! (just joking)

Have a great day
Cheers
Angie

The better they are informed

I beleive means the better chance they have of being able to say no. I know at the moment my eldest is Horrified by what these drugs can do and it is not just because I say so,It is because this is real information.

dont think your a pessimist.... your a realist. Its tooo easy for kids to get drugs, legal and illegal. Its shocking all we can do as parents is educate (thanks to you we know lots now) and give our kids all the love and attention they need and more so hopefully they dont go looking else where. thanks for all your advice.
