In A Mess as Baby Overdue!!!!!!! |
 |

So your pregnancy will last for exactly 40 weeks !
Baby always arrives on their due date !
The Scan Date they give you is always accurate !
I had my first baby early so all other babies will be early too !
Sorry everyone but in most cases this is absolute rubbish!!!!
I was fortunate enough to never suffer with Post Natal Depression...... but then I didn't need to, I had already suffered big time with Ante Natal Depression.
Excluding my miscarriage the four babies I carried to full term were born at :
Baby No 1 Length of Pregnancy 42 - 46 weeks - Depending on how much you want to believe the scan dates I was given, I also had 4 false start Labours with this baby, with contractions getting down to every 3 - 4 minutes but they would miraculously stop the second I walked in the doors of the maternity unit
Baby No 2 Length of Pregnancy 43 weeks - Once I got to the 40 weeks I was promised to be induced each checkup on the following week, but it was always decided as a bad idea, it wasn't until we put our foot down and insisted that something happened and even then it was natural I think I was so stressed that Labour just kicked off, the delivery was very traumatic and we nearly lost her as she was very stressed herself but after a good checkup she was declared fine
Baby No 3 Length of Pregnancy 42 weeks - This baby was induced at 42 weeks and that was because I made it clear from the start that I wasn't going to go through another traumatic delivery with a far too overdue baby and risk nearly losing this one. Even so I had to endure 3 attempts of induction before finally labour started
Baby No 4 Length of Pregnancy 40 weeks 5 days - Yay my early baby Normal start but a cord around the neck made this another worrying delivery however a few minutes of air and he was fine.
The reason for me writing this article was to tell you that Ante Natal Depression really does exist
The worst thing for any expectant mother to have to go through when they are overdue is listening to well meaning people make "funny" comments
Here are some favourites I had to put up with:
"Oh you're still here then?"
Duh!!! No I just left !!!
"Are you sure its not wind!" Ha ha
Hysterical laughter before you wind them!!!!
"Never mind love, it won't be long now !"
Oh right cos you're the expert !
"When the apple is ripe it'll fall from the tree"
You what??? Isn't that when they are bruised and damaged
Or my absolute favourite
"You not had the baby yet then ?"
of course can you not see him/her
I also used to cry and weep all the time and snap the heads off of anyone who even looked at me. I refused to answer the phone, I refused to WADDLE down the street, I refused to invite friends around.......
I just wanted my baby and I couldn't understand why the due date had been and gone leaving me still pregnant
So, my advice to everyone is NEVER approach an overdue pregnant woman unless exercising extreme caution
NEVER make jokey comments to overdue pregnant women
NEVER be sympathetic to overdue pregnant women unless you have been there yourself
In fact unless you know what an overdue pregnant women is going through
LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!!!
You're very survival may depend on it

overdue
Well, with Emma I was absolutely convinced she would be +7 over the EDD anyway, so I was mostly climbing the walls in the last few days as I personally did not want to be induced until at least +14 unless the doctors could give me a good medical reason (eg lack of amniotic fluid, drop in heartrate, placenta starting to fail, etc), so they were monitoring me in the second week. When she came out the placenta was good and healthy ie working fine, and the biggest any of them had seen! With Soph, who PTL was only +3 EDD I was planning a homebirth so I was even more desperate to avoid going too far over as I had some midwives saying no HB over +10 and others sayying no HB over +14. I'd done my research on induction and overdue babies so I was making an informed choice.
Personally I think the EDD just raises women's stress levels, like it's the golden day and everything MUST be going wrong if you're either "early" or "late" by a week or two. Each baby is as unique in how long they need to be inside as they are unique in what they're like once they're out LOL, so I think the midwives should be encouraged to monitor each baby individually rather than apply the "rule book" to them. But that's my personal opinion!
I found the UK Homebirth site on Yahoo (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/homebirthUK ) excellent for discussing these things and helping me make my informed decision - strongly recommend it! And Angela Horn's unbiased webiste http://www.homebirth.org.uk/ with lots of useful links.
But every mum is different and some people prefer induction to going 10 days over - your choice!
