New Baby Blues

Anonymous Author (March 2007)

Being a new parent often begins with a period of feeling blue/down and weepy. I guess with every up, there comes a down, From your hormones rising because you're excited about carrying your new baby, to dropping because you have to say good-bye to the way that life 'used to

be'. You're deprived of sleep or your baby keeps crying and you just cant soothe her anymore, or maybe you need a helping hand. This leads to anxiety, sadness and frustration.

-Accept Help, from a relative, neighbour or friend. I've learnt , that if you're an independent person, just remember you cant be super-woman all the time. You need to ease the load now and later, so dont say no to anyone who offers their assistance.

-Educate yourself & dont listen to the negetive comments people around you say. Read, research and educate yourself on the changes you are about to experience, and on what to expect from a new born. Then listen to your instincts and make your own decisions.

-Eat well all the time, for the good of you and your baby, especially if you're breastfeeding, for energy all day /night long. Eat healthy meals 4/5 times a day instead of just 3 times a day. Dont resort to junk food. It just causes complications for your baby.

-Get some fresh air. Go outside. Dont just stay in your room with the baby all the time. When baby is napping, if you cant nap, take a walk in the garden. Open windows for fresh air ciculation in the house.

-Keep calm and cool. If you feeling down, dont over react to your new feelings. think positively and work towards making yourself feel better.

This is very good advice and the best defence to the blues is definately preparation.  I agree with you wholeheartedly.
