tantrums

kryztyna by kryztyna Talking Back(June 2006) (rank 101st)

My daughter is 13 months, she's funny, bright and a really sweet girl. But I find her temper is getting worse. More temper tantrums! about 2-3 a day which isn't to bad i've heard. I'm just so afraid when she has one she's going to really hurt herself when she

throws herself on the floor. Some people saw " just leave her" Others say distract her with a toy. Has anyone have any ideas? Or have been in a similar situation? Please help.

In my experience over the past year and half tantrums are a crazy thing they come on so quickly sometimes. But i find that they should be handled differently for each tantrum, like sometimes distracting  works but other times you can just pick up your child and give them a hug and everything is ok. I think that you can try different things to find out what works best with your child and after a  while you will know how to handle the tantrum. You will also be able to tell what set the tantrum off and try to avoid it next time. I found when i went grocery shopping my daughter would always have a tantrum so I starting bringing a little bag with snacks  that she really likes and when we start shopping I give her the snacks and she just sits there as happy as can be. But other times we have been out and I had to go and sit in the car  to give her a minute to calm down ( usually this is because she is over tired ) So anyways , not sure if this helps at all  : ) . But I have had to deal with less tantrums or at least shorter ones because I tried everything that every little old lady and stranger told me while I was trying to deal with a screaming child in a store or park or well just about anywhere.  So good luck to all the mothers in the world who have cuties with a bad temper ; )

Re: tantrums

Iv been using the Nervatona Calm for a number of months now, although my 4 yo's tantrums are extreme, even compared to the child mentioned here.

it is helping alot we use the spray and provided we use it early it works, even though it is only advised for children 6 and older, stretching it a bit for 4 yo, but it would be even further a stretch for an infant I think.

although they may have other products including those for infants.

it rarely completely stops the tantrum but it can do if we give her a spray early enough.

it most assuredly reduces the extent of the tantrum however

head banging
Head banging may be associated with several causes. However first and foremost is to ascertain if the infant was vaccinated with a mercury containing vaccine.
Provided this is ruled out it may be prudent to examine the diet fro too much refined carbohydrates by checking "gycemic Index' online.
Next early behavioural problems usually respond well to the introduction of omega-3 fatty acids in some Infant feeding subsitutes and/or Efalex liquid which is Fish Oil and evening Primrose oil. Well worth a try is a homoeopathic such as Brauer Nervatona Calm.

tantrums
I think that's all very true. The only thing to make sure of is that you don' t directly reward the tantrums (give in to what they are having the tantrum about) because that can perpetuate them. Address the cause of the tantrum and not the tantrum itself.
