With my job I saw a lady today with her brand new two hour baby (lovely job
)
The amount of hair the baby had was amazing
I swear the new baby needed a hair cut She had beautiful Jet Black hair. Gorgeous.
Of course I commented and we then had a long discussion on Heartburn during pregnancy.......
Is it a myth?
But have you all heard that if you get heartburn during pregnancy then its likely your baby will have lots of hair!!!
I don't know if its true but the lady I saw today. Now believes it!!!!
Heartburn
This is a really uncomfortable sensation very similar to bad indigestion pain and it can spread from your breastbone all along to your throat. Once it starts it is likely it will carry on throughout the remainder of the pregnancy.
Treatment
If you get severe Heartburn, it is okay to take a recommended Antacid formula such as Gaviscon. But you must ALWAYS check with your midwife/doctor before taking it, just because Antacid is non prescribed you should still check it is safe to take when pregnant.
Prevention
There is really not a lot you can do to prevent heartburn, but there are several things you can try to cut down the chances of getting it.
Do Not Eat Large Meals - Try eating little and often as opposed to one large meal several times a day.
Avoid Spicy Foods - Much as you may like spicy foods, if you are prone to Heartburn it is better to avoid these foods whilst pregnant or you are guaranteed to be suffering later.
Foods to avoid - chocolate
acidic foods like citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, mustard, processed meats, fried or fatty foods.
Avoid Alcohol - Again this can start up Heartburn
No Fizzy Drinks - Think is the one I found the hardest when I suffered with Heartburn, as I am a complete Cola Addict
Do Not Eat Late At Night - Not eating food before you go to bed, gives your food time to digest properly, it takes longer to digest when lying down. It is also advisable to prop yourself up with pillows when asleep as this will keep the stomach acids down.
Try Chewing Gum - When chewing gum you increase the saliva which then neutralises the acids in your stomach
Drink plenty of Water - But again as with the food, drink little and often not several glasses in one sitting
No Smoking - Obviously it is recommended to not smoke during pregnancy anyway. But did you know smoking also increases your stomach acidity levels
Knee Bends Only - Also to stop you having Back ache but again if you bend at the knees instead of your waist it lessens the stomach acid rising up and starting up the heartburn
Hope this helps. From what I remember Heartburn is a really miserable experience
