Yuk!
Apologies in advance
Ok so its horrible
But lets talk Haemorrhoids!!!!
There are basically three different kinds:
External This is when you may have spotting from the anus and the area can feel like hard lumps
Internal
These are found inside the Rectum, they may bleed but are usually pain free
Prolapsed This is the most severe and painful kind, these push through the anus and hang out the body especially after going to the toilet or the delivery of your baby for obvious reasons of the straining muscles accompanied by both
Whilst all these are common in Pregnancy and as part of your Post Natal care, you should always keep an eye on rectal bleeding and get it checked out just in case it is early signs of something more sinister.
As one of the major causes of Haemorrhoids is straining from constipation. Diet is a huge factor in prevention.
It is recommended you up your intake of vegetables, fruit, cereals and water to provide sufficient fibre thus softening your stools.
Increase your Vitamin C
Foods such as cabbage, green peppers, citrus fruit, rosehip, blackcurrants, whole grain, seeds and nuts, all these strengthen the walls of your blood vessels.
Avoid packaged foods as they can cause dehydration and are low in fibre.
Also try to avoid constipating foods such as red wine, chocolate, tea, coffee, cocoa and cola.
You should also avoid standing for long periods of time, as gravity can assist these ailments!!!
Symptoms
Itching and/or pain around the Anal
Rectal burning sensation and/or pain
Discomfort
Swelling of hemorrhoidal tissue
Inflammation
Painful bowel movements
Rectal bleeding
Self Help
Sit in a warm bath - this relaxes the muscles and soothes the anal area
Sitting with your legs raised straight out in front of you and resting as much as possible
Donut-shaped comfort cushions can help relieve hemorrhoid pressure, particularly if you sit for extended periods of time.
Medication
You can get soothing gels, creams, ointments and suppositories which will all help relieve the pain and shrink back any prolapsed Haemorrhoids, discuss with your doctor/midwife which one they recommend for you
IN MOST CASES WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF GIVING BIRTH, THE HAEMORRHOIDS WILL DISAPPEAR. EVEN IF A RE OCCURRENCE HAPPENS, USE THE MEDICATION STRAIGHT AWAY AND USE THE SAME SELF HELP TIPS AS BEFORE
In Some rare cases Surgery can be the only option
Hemorrhoid surgery:
The "Rubber Band" treatment. The hemorrhoid is drawn into a special instrument, which fastens a tiny rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid. Eventually, the hemorrhoid falls off.
Cryosurgery. Freezes external hemorrhoids with liquid nitrogen.
Hemorrhoidectomy. The surgical removal of hemorrhoids.
But try not to worry as generally it is treated by the creams etc
