Premature Babies

Rakka by Rakka Walking(March 2007) (rank 500+)
After my own experiences of having a premature baby born at 27 weeks i am one parent who knows how hard the road can be. My son was in hospital for 110 days and had the standard prem problems ranging from Chronic Lung Disease, Hernia which was operated on a week
before he came home & a PDA which was treated with medication. I have met MANY parents along the way with babies ranging from 23wks to 37wks and some of the stories are inspirational.

I personally found that there was/is not enough support or awareness of premature babies in Australia so i started my own website for parents of premature babies which channel 10 recognises as a support site for Australian families. When my son was going through NICU i was astonished at how common premature birth was. The bays were all full (of 60 babies) and it was like that for the 3.5mths we were there so it is something that needs more research gone into it.

My advice to anyone that has a premature baby is, when you are going through the NICU be sure to journal their life everyday as it helps emotionally.

Re: Premature Babies

I agree, write things down or you will forget (even if it feels like it's burned on your brain at the time).

I also recommend taking lots of photographs, especially size comparison photos (eg with your hand or a teddy bear) and some video footage if you possibly can.

Prem advice
Good advice.  A diary is always a good thing, and it will help you and be something great for your child to look back on when they are older.

I am in the UK - is there a similar site over here?  I shall take a look later when I come back here, maybe you could link from your site out to other international sites of similar intent.
Peace
