I'm re-posting this as i'm still learning how to write articles and have added some links and examples as when i wrote it last i couldn't find the diary in which i'd wrote them. I've also learnt how to add photos!!! Sorry to those who have already read
it!!
I thought that i'd like to share a great idea with you all that i do with my kids.
From the time they are learning to talk and form sentences i have kept a diary or note book and everytime they say something cute or funny i quickly jot it down. Then i have something to look back on as they get older.
- After asking Zak (aged 3) numerous times to come and get ready for bed i ended up raising my voice and telling him that i'm getting very angry. Zak then said to me "Don't be angry at me mummy just say to me Zak don't do that." He then gave me big hug.- Priceless!!
- I dropped Zak at Pre-school on his first day and gave him abig hug and kiss and told him to be good and have fun. He then said to me "okay mummy you go home and clean and do washing and look after kaluha (our dog) and you be good too!"
- Driving in the car one day and Zak (aged 4) said completely out of the blue "you shouldn't steal fridges" I said "no baby you shouldn't, who told you that?" he replys with "my brain told me."
- And finally Luke was 2 weeks old when Zak was holding him on the lounge and he looks down at Luke and says "I love you so much Lukey, you're my best friend!"
I have so many more but you get the idea.
Sure there have been times when i have forgotten to write them down and have been racking my brain trying to remember what they said but i've now learnt to keep one at home and one in my bag so that i'm covered where ever i am. It's also a great thing for me as all my family and my husband's family live 600kms away and when we talk to them on the phone or go to visit they always ask "so what cute things have they done lately?" and so i can just read my litle book to them and they love it.
Part of being a mother / father is always having a great memory and never forgetting a thing.....(not), so it really is such a great thing to have and you can look back over the years and even when you're reading them for the hundreth time you find yourself smiling and laughing. I have some great things in my books that my boys have said or done that are absolutely priceless.
Give it a go.....you won't regret it.
