Funny things kids say!

mumof2b by mumof2b Talking Back(April 2007) (rank 36th)

I'm re-posting this as i'm still learning how to write articles and have added some links and examples as when i wrote it last i couldn't find the diary in which i'd wrote them. I've also learnt how to add photos!!!      Sorry to those who have already read it!!

I thought that i'd like to share a great idea with you all that i do with my kids.

From the time they are learning to talk and form sentences i have kept a diary or note book and everytime they say something cute or funny i quickly jot it down.  Then i have something to look back on as they get older.

- After asking Zak (aged 3) numerous times to come and get ready for bed i ended up raising my voice and telling him that i'm getting very angry. Zak then said to me "Don't be angry at me mummy just say to me Zak don't do that." He then gave me big hug.- Priceless!!

- I dropped Zak at Pre-school on his first day and gave him abig hug and kiss and told him to be good and have fun. He then said to me "okay mummy you go home and clean and do washing and look after kaluha (our dog) and you be good too!"

- Driving in the car one day and Zak (aged 4) said completely out of the blue "you shouldn't steal fridges" I said "no baby you shouldn't, who told you that?" he replys with "my brain told me."

- And finally Luke was 2 weeks old when Zak was holding him on the lounge and he looks down at Luke and says "I love you so much Lukey, you're my best friend!"

I have so many more but you get the idea.

Sure there have been times when i have forgotten to write them down and have been racking my brain trying to remember what they said but i've now learnt to keep one at home and one in my bag so that i'm covered where ever i am.  It's also a great thing for me as all my family and my husband's family live 600kms away and when we talk to them on the phone or go to visit they always ask "so what cute things have they done lately?" and so i can just read my litle book to them and they love it.

Part of being a mother / father is always having a great memory and never forgetting a thing.....(not),  so it really is such a great thing to have and you can look back over the years and even when you're reading them for the hundreth time you find yourself smiling and laughing. I have some great things in my books that my boys have said or done that are absolutely priceless.

Give it a go.....you won't regret it.

Don't lose it...
This is fantastic advice, however, there is one thing that you must never ever do, that is lose the booklet/notepad/pieces of paper.  Mine is lost.  I have searched high and low for years to find my original book, that one of those firsts.  I have an idea when and how, but the fact remains that it is gone.  Keep them safe.
Peace

Fantastic article!!!!! I have so many of the things gracie has said............. here's a recent one for you all... they've been learning about the earth at school and madam came home and said to me "mum, did you know that there is a big hole above the earth and that's where all the air goes???" Guess I've learnt something new

Gift

I had a gift to buy for a friend who has a 6 month old, and after reading this article I realised a great present would be a quotes book, so I found the nicest notebook I could (handmade paper etc!) and sent it to her with the suggested use. She loved the idea.

Anyway, if people enjoyed your article, and they're struggling what to get a new baby or friends with kids, you could do worse than get them a notebook (I mean, another toy that needs batteries wont make them smile half so much as their kids unforgettable quotes )!

Gift

That's a great idea.......why haven't I ever thought of that????

It's always so hard coming up with something to give as a baby gift, I mean, what are the choices? Stuffed toys, clothes, and as you said, battery operated things.....how boring......

Oh thanks for the reminder!
I remember my friend doing this, and I always thought that it was a great idea.  Thank goodness you reminded me before Jay could construct a whole sentence!  How gorgeous - is there a group on here for these priceless pieces of child speak?

I love scrapbooking also and I've included these in my boys albums, it really brings the whole concept to life.

Thanks for your comment, it's great to know other people have the same ideas also.

You just brought back VERY old memories for me.
My youngest sister is 21 in August, and one of my favorite things she used to say was when she was only about 18 months old and my brother would get there and push her dolls head in.  She would get there and say, "Don't do that,  you'll wreck it...!!!" It was so cute the way she used to say it.

Also, just recently, on the way home from getting my boys from school, my five year old son was basically telling me what to do, so I asked him, "Who do you think you are, the boss???" And he replied, "No, you're the boss...and I am the king!!!"

I wish I had a book from the first day to remember them all too, but I am going to start NOW!!! That's an awesome idea.  Thanks for sharing it

LOL.....that is so cute, they can come out with the cutest things. That's why I started the book because my oldest would say the funniest things but I would never remember all of them. I'm so glad I started to write them down.

Thank you for your comment it means a lot to get positive feedback.

I have a book too. I think my favourite one of Em's sayings was when my husband asked her "what's the magic word?" for the first time. I hadn't taught her what that meant, so she used her head and had a guess "chocolate?" she said!
