No More Artificial Sweeteners - Go Natural!

Anonymous Author (April 2007)
Ok so after my advice on Aspartame and its harmful effects people have been asking "What should a diabetic use then?" Here is your answer. Natural sweeteners. There is NO ADDED CHEMICALS. Here is the 2 that I know about.

Stevia

Its
a natural healthy sweetener. Its carbohydrate free and fat free. It wont effect your blood sugar levels at all. Its safe for all diabetics and dieters. Its made from the extract of Stevia leaves. Best thing about it is it can be used the same way as sugar and unlike some artificial sweeteners you can safely cook with it.

Side effects?

When used excessively it can cause an aftertaste. Thats it :)

Xilytol

Not only is it natural it helps stabilise insulin and hormone levels. It helps teeth! It is used in a lot of dental care things like toothpaste and mouthwash. It is a naturally occurring sweetener found in the fibers of some fruits and vegetables including various berries, corn husks, oats, and mushrooms. It is about as sweet as sucrose but without the aftertaste.

Side effects?

With over consumption is can cause diarrhea. Thats it :)
