Live for just that one moment

lonely28 by lonely28 Talking Back(April 2007) (rank 78th)
In this day and age there is so much for all of us to be aware of as parents that it can be all consuming. Everything from basic parenting (if there is such a thing) to the bigger picture stuff. The other day when I was at the park with my
daughter she was rolling down the hills and asked me to join in. So I did and not even caring about the strange looks I got from some people, I realised that she had just reminded of a very simple lesson........ live in the moment.
Kids live for that moment in time and that moment alone so why don't we as adults????? We all get so caught up in planning for the future, looking at the past that we can neglect the here and now. We can't go back and change the past, we can place a foundation for the future but more importantly, we can live for the right now.
I am no where near advocating forgetting the responsiblties we have as adults, I am merely suggesting that we stop, have a look and live in the moment. Even if it's just one moment out of your day, get out there and be as innocent as your child. They'll more than likely end up laughing at you but you may just find yourself laughing as well. Here are some of the things that my daughter and I get up to at least once a day, completely unplanned, slightly embarressing , just complete innocent fun:

Dancing!!!!! Put on some music no matter what it is and let loose. Who cares if you can't dance like a professional, it's all in the name of fun

Dressing up: kids love to dream and why can't we??? I think today I was Cate Blanchett dressed by a 7 year old but I was married to George Clooney lol !!!!!!!!!! I have also been an elephant, a princess, a king..... well you get the picture.

Cooking "kid" style: it may completely inedible, look disgusting and create a lot of mess in the kitchen but watching their imagination may just spark yours again!

Painting fingers and all! Get in there and paint! No picasso's required, just some paint, paper and let your imagination run wild.

Roll down hills, play on the equipemt, build sandcastles..... whatever you loved when you were a kid do it now and relive some of the best memories of your childhood!

These are just some of the things that I can get up to with my daughter. Not only does she laugh but so do I. It gives me the chance to  leave all the stress of the day, month behind and just live in that moment. It is those moments I cherish more than anything else for they are the moments that I may never get to have again. Would love to hear some of the things that you guys get up to. No need for embarressment here, we're all adults lol!!!

cheers,

Live for the moment
Thanks mumof2b!!!! I just finished a marathon playdough session with miss 7. I never knew that playdough could get in your ears but apparently it can!!!! I know it's moments like the one we had today that come and go so quickly and I cherish a lot. Plus it gives me a chance to be a really big kid and not be responsible for a moment lol!!!!!

thanks again hunni,

Live for the moment

Great Article!!

I love being silly with my boys. We dress up and act the part of whatever is their favourite thing of the moment. We do finger painting.....sometimes on each other. We have our favourite picnic spot that has a steep hill and we take cardboard boxes and slid down. We run around the house, play hide 'n seek.

They love it and get so much enjoyment out of it, they are the times I cherish.............

Lovely

I enjoyed your article and your so right, we should grab every moment we can, especially with our children they grow up far to fast. And to able to share these magic moments with them it something to treasure and also help us feel young again, as we only travel this road of life but once, seize every minute you can.

Regards Janice

Thanks Fiona!!!
It wasn't really until I split with the father of my  boys that I could have fun with the boys and make a complete idiot out of myself...ha ha ha!!! I

I don't care what I do now...who cares what anyone else thinks...???

I usually join in when the boys are coloring in or using their play dough.  Lots of fun, I don't think I had play dough at home when I was a child!!!

I also love running around the house chasing the boys, it's so much fun and great exercise.  Haven't done it much lately though...slowing down with the pregnancy!!!

What's the most funniest thing for me is that I get told by my son's and other kids that come up that my music is TOO LOUD!!! Isn't it supposed to be the other way around...??? And it's music that they listen to, not old music either!!!

That's all I can think of at the moment, but I am sure there's more silly things i do...if I think of anything else, I will add to t his later.

Great article!!!
