Getting Healthy!

Anonymous Author (April 2007)
I know its hard to change a whole lifestyle to get healthy but it doesn't have to be the end of everything. here are a few tips of things you can do that will help overall...

Plant a vegetable garden - Get the kids to help with
it. It will have no pesticides and all be nautral! They are more likely to eat it when they helped grow it.

Plant some herbs - Again get the kids to help out!! There is nothing better than fresh herbs :)

Water those fruit trees
- Keep them pruned and healthy and watered and they will love you when its season time! Nothing better than a fresh picked apple. Might be a good idea to throw a net over them too :)

Cut off the fat - Or buy lean cut meats. Its much healthier and when its cooking the meat wont absorb all that yucky greasy fat that melts if its not cut off.

Buy wholemeal bread
- Simple yes and it also helped me loose 9kg in a month!

Ditch the margarine for butter - A lot better for you

Swap the potatoes for greens - Growing up we had potato pretty much every meal. Now I cook it once or twice a month and we have a lot of greens and corn. Less carbs :)

Put healthy snacks in kids reach - A bowl of fruit. A packet of saltanas. A vita wheet biscuit. Instead of chips, chocolate and lollies.

Prepare healthy snacks so you dont reach for the easy unhealthy things - When we are hungry we dont want to spend time preparing things to snack on. So keep those snacks already prepared and stored somewhere. That way we wont be tempted to snack on a bag of chips when there is already something healthy made :)

Freeze healthy meals - That way when we dont have time to prepare a home cooked meal we wont be tempted to order Maccas or KFC or pizza. Its as easy as pulling it out and re heating it :)

When you go out pack a lunch - No more chips and gravy. Pack some sandwiches, fruit, nuts and healthy snacks. Saves money too :)

Make your own peanut butter - At most health food shops around here you can make your own peanut butter. No additives. Just peanuts. Its yummy too :)

Bake and cook things from scratch - That way you know whats going in it.

Not only will these things help you get healthy, loose weight and other things. It will also save your pocket!

healthy
I try to do these things all the time but I like the idea of a herb garden. Will look into that. I also had a friend who grew her own mushrooms in a spare cupboard and her little daughter loved it as they grow very quickly.
