A fellow member wrote an advice article on Vinnies and saving money on the little things. This is a fantastic idea.
Another I am very fond of, and probably spend too much time at is Freecycle. This group is dedicated to saving landfill by giving unwanted stuff to others.
By doing so, we may also be helping someone in need.
The Freecycle Network™ is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns.
Something for nothing, now I like the idea of that. I have got things on there, ranging from steel cap boots for my son for TAFE, baby gear for my sister who recently had a new bub, clothes for all the family, excercise equipment and given away things like toilet seats, picture frames I have never used, baby gates, clothes, books etc.
All it takes is the cost of petrol to pick it up. I get some good bargains, and get to clean out my unwanteds at the same time.
They have communities throughout the world, and it is free to join.
How does it work?
When you want to find a new home for something -- whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door -- you simply send an e-mail offering it to members of the local Freecycle group.
Or, maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself. Simply respond to a member's offer, and you just might get it. After that, it's up to the giver to decide who receives the gift and to set up a pickup time for passing on the treasure.
Our main rule: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.

Happy days!
