Capturing Family Life in Photographs- Idea #7

tracey by tracey Young Parent(April 2007) (rank 4th)

Part of a series of ideas to help any parent take endearing and meaningful pictures of their kids.

 Idea #7

 Time to Say Cheese-

Not often enough are we actually in photos with our children. When we are the family photographers, there are very

few pictures of us. Some parents aren’t fond of having their picture taken but this is no excuse! One thing you’ll never regret is having a collection of photographs of you and your children.

I will often ask my daughter to shoot a photo of me and my other daughter and then switch it around for the next shot. My girls are thrilled to get to take a photo and are equally as happy to get their own picture with me. It’s win-win situation and can be lots of fun. Kids have the ability to take wonderful photographs; you just have to give them a chance.  If you only have a baby or one child, be sure to ask a spouse, partner or other relative or friend to take the photo. No excuses!

Come on parents, smile and say cheese!

In our situation it is finding a person around to ask to help us out - definitely worthwhle as there are only about 5 shots of E and I together.  Something I truly am sad about, even though there is nothing I can do about it.
Peace

Precious memories that cant be replaced. Especially those very early years, such a wonderful thing to look back on.

Great advice! Most of the pics we have are taken by me. Just a couple of when he was first born with me in them. Gotta change that!

Turning the camera around
I need to do this, but I hate having my photo snapped...love snapping others though.

I use the timer
I don't have anyone to take photos of my daughter and I.  I use the timer, but don't often get to use it as my digital camera doesn't have a timer only the film camera has and unfortunately we don't often get to do that. Every year, just after Hannah's birthday, we have professional photos taken of the two of us.  That way I know that there are at least some photos of the two of us together! It costs about $300 for each package, and to me that's justifiable.

Too True
We get too caught up in how we may look or we just don't think about the camera. I am an avid Scrapbooker so i keep me small digital camera in my bag all the time and so it;s there whenever something cute happens or whatever the case may be.
