Mothers day Gift ideas for your children

Anonymous Author (April 2007)

Mother Day has become so commercial and this year i want my kids to learn that a gift from the heart is worth far more to me than any item they can buy without thinking off the shelf...Every year i get a pair of slippers or a dressing gown(which is fine BUT..... Theres no thought to it) so this year i want them to look to their heart...so i have searched the web and found heaps of little ideas..... Please Check out the links too

.What can we do to show mum how much she means to us...... Its not that far away to Mothers day >>> If you are a mum maybe you can help your children do something special this year For Nana... You could also try leaving it open so the SO in your life might get the hint
  • Hire a Cleaning woman for a couple of hours (or do it yourself)...Could do with this one myself
  • make personal stationery or a greeting card with your p.c
  • Get A Journal  for her to write her treasured memories in..I am a big journal keeper from way back
  • What about A "Rain Check Book" that you fill with things that can be redeemed. E.g: hugs; doing the dishes; setting the table; be creative........
  • do a hand print place mat and get it laminated... my children have both done this for me...Love them and they get used
  • Buy her lunch somewhere nice
  • chocolates... what more can i say
  •  Let her have breakfast in bed
  • Do the laundry
  • chocolates
  • Grow a lollipop plant! Paint your pot...Place foam at the base of the pot. Place lollipops into the foam and put moss over .
  • Take her on a picnic she didn't have to prepare... i would love this if my kids didn't pack chips and bickie's only
  • Clean your room... yeh like this could happen you say
  • Hand print magnets...Paint your  hand with paint and make a hand print on cardboard.Cut around the outside and then stick a magnet to the back...decorate your fridge with your little treasures hands.....
  • Bake a special cake....hmm make mine chocolate
  • chocolates
  • send her to a movie.... Make sure they don't pick Disney or the like hehehe
  • Buy bath oil and candles and make her take the night off to pamper herself......... wow what an indulgence
  • Make a huge Mother’s Day Sign
  • Give her a picture of you in a frame you decorate
  • chocolates
  • Decorate a jewelry box for her (try spotlight or the like)
  • Start a scrapbook of photos of you and her......... a gift that we can add to
  • Buy her a packet of flower seeds so she can enjoy a bouquet for longer....what a gift for your garden & you can plant together
  •  Chocolates....  just in case you didn't get it the first few times
Have a look at these for more inspiration

School age care ideas
I have just taken over the school age care room in the afternoons starting from yesterday so I've had to go from Toddler Time thinking to Schoolies Suggestions.  I have bought chocolate moulds in big teddy shapes, the children are making teddies with plaster of paris every day next week and painting them.  We also have little flower chocolate moulds that we are going to make chocolates with. They're really sweet, and we are leaving this one for a couple of weeks, doing it the same week we make the cup cakes. The children get to decorate the cakes themselves as well as helping with the making of the cakes - from scratch! We are using marshmallows and smarties to make flowers on the top of the cakes, or they can use their own ideas. This week they are handing me a list of what ingredients they think I will need for them to decorate the top of them so that should be interesting. I have told them I can't buy everything since I have to supply it myself, but I'll do my best. It is very affordable and very personal too.  They are creating their own cards using the cardboard I supply as well as what ever they want to use - paints, prints, collage, drawings, whatever they want to do to make it as personal as possible. I am encouraging them to write a phrase they want to put in it, then I'll print it out on the computer for them to stick in their card.  Just ome more ideas for the older children. Enjoy Mothers Day everyone :)

Mothers Day Gifts
I get really annoyed with the commercialism of everything these days. My big kids when they went through primary school, always had the Mothers Day Craft stall at the school. So they got to choose pressies from there. Never mind that I was part of the craft group, it was still there choice. But the best pressie I have gotten the last couple of years - ABSOLUTELY no fighting, screaming or general arguing on Mothers Day. Leisa

good idea
yes i agree  with you its become big money for the shops , I like getting things that the kids made for  me at school or the mother gifes at the school as the kids have no one to tell them that  whats mum wants, its all there own idea on what they want to give you . I always said to my kids when they got old  er that all i want for mothers day is a hug and   kisses  and thats all i need

great ideas
great ideas, and i''ve always told my children that i would prefer gifts that they can be helped by a teacher/carer that is made by them is more special then a shop bought.. Also we sometimes in my household have my bday on the same day, so i always tell them to make me one special gift.. Hubby always organises a bbq or roast and has all the family around and us mums dont lift a finger, the guys and the kids do all the work...

Great ideas!
I agree, Mothers Day has become too commericial. The things you do with your kids are the best way to celebrate it. My daughter's only 20mths old, so I'm sure our special thing will be for me to help her make something at playgroup to celebrate Mothers Day.
