Traveling in the car with children

mcm by mcm Young Parent(April 2007) (rank 3rd)
My husband and I have always loved travelling in the car. A couple of months after we were married we travelled the Nullabor ( a very long stretch of road in Australia). I was in the early weeks of pregnancy with our first child. Ahh the morning sickness...

We like to take our kids places and our favourite past time together is taking a drive. If it wan't for the rise in petrol prices and lack of time I think we would drive more. Actually I don't drive but hubby has had his full licence for about 7 years.  So he drives and we all enjoy it.

So how do we handle long drives with our three young children?
For the most part we haven't had any dramas such as travel sickness or tantrums. We take our time and stop when necessary. Our kids often sleep and chat when awake throughout our trips. We make sure they get a stretch and  a runaround,  toilet breaks/nappy changes and a good feed at regular intervals.

Enjoy your local area! I love learning about our state and country and then teaching the kids about it - actually we learnt a lot together. I didn't have these experiences as a child. Its great to be able to get a way from home and see a little of the bigger world. And as they say the journey is greater than the destination.
