Nutrition During Pregnancy and Breast Feeding

proud-mommy by proud-mommy Talking Back(June 2006) (rank 68th)

There are 5 main food groups that you would want to follow while you are pregnant. These are Dairy, Grain, Fruits and Vegetables, Meat and Alternatives, and Other. You want to have :

3-4 servings of dairy

5-12 servings of grain

5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables

2-3 servings of meat and alternatives

For other foods you want to eat/drink them in moderation because they are foods that aren't good for you

1 serving of dairy = 1 cup of whole, 2%, 1%, or skim milk

1 serving of grain = 1 slice of bread

1 serving of fruits/vegetables = 1 medium sized fruit/vegetable

1 serving of meat/alternatives = 1-2 eggs

Other foods may include: soft drinks, coffee, tea, candies, butter, etc

For more information you can go to different parenting/pregnancy websites

See it for what it is
As the good doctor says, he loves a challenge....this is the only reason why he came out to play....he's gunnin for a dispute, don't give it to em ladies....let it go! He talks about dangers but gives no alternatives to his poisonous ramblings...treating people he asks?? I birthed 3 very healthy babies under the care of the best doctors in my area and not one of them suggested I not eat food! I think he is suggesting that we should all live in a bubble and be IV fed....there are pollutants everywhere, including in Australia that cross the placenta and yes foods too.....but in my opinion I think the greatest focus should be on the millions of crack and other drug addicted babies that enter this world, the alcohol syndrome babies, the malnourished babies from 3 world pregnancies...let's get real,  the world is what it is and a bubble is just not an option to us...YET!!!!!!!!! Give it time, I am sure!

Really... Does that mean food will kill my baby? Maybe the dingo won't eat it but the food will!

I mean, for crying out loud! It's food, not arsenic. Please tell me he's not serious.

You better belive it lady! Recent research in the USA where doctors extracted blood from the umbilical cord
of just ordinary (at random) fetus's showed many hundeds of toxic chemicals of which more that 200 were carcinogenic, i.e. cancer causing. And they ain't even born yet. Is that real enough for you?
Please though, seriously, do not be too concerned we have not got to the good part yet including chocolate every day!
How does that grab ya?
But. yes but , You knew there was a catch dindnya?
Do not rush out and by just any chocky cos most of it is just plain dangerous.
By the way thank you  love a challenge.
Peace & happiness

Thank you for your feedback. I guess I might have a teeny weeny bit of dementia creeping in.
I thought that all I was doing thus far was sharing information about liver toxicity and proven causative factors.

By the way, how many infants and children have you treated in the last 25 years with Celiac disease, Aspergers, Crohn's disease, Autism, ADHD, ADD, Downs Syndrome, Diabetes, Heart disease, Cancer and more?

As for arsenic check this out: http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxprofiles/phs2.html

Hereunder is is just a small part of the reason I am sharing the information. Unfortunately the stats. can be extrapolated to Australians who unfortunately thanks to the USA media and life-style are "monkey see, monkey do"

WHY PROJECT FIT AMERICA?

What the Studies Show: U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Obesity

  • Over twenty million children are overweight by an average of 8.3 pounds.
  • Childhood obesity has tripled since 1980.
  • One in six American children are classified as physically underdeveloped.
  • More than half the girls and one quarter of the boys ages 6-17 cannot run a mile faster than walking.
  • Seventy percent of girls in this age group cannot do more than one pull up, and fifty five percent of the boys cannot do even one.
  • Forty percent of American children aged 5-8 years show one or more risk factors of heart disease including: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and low cardiovascular endurance.

This lack of fitness and health awareness in children contributes to many problems cited by schoolteachers. Examples cited include, but are not limited to:

  • Lack of self-esteem in children, which contributes to poor choices.
  • Aggressive behavior in children, which contributes to classroom disruptions and playground fights.
  • Experimenting with unsafe diet practices (fasting, diet pills, anabolic steroids).

The July 1996 Report by the U.S. Surgeon General on Physical Activity and Health states: Nearly half the young people 12-21 years of age are not vigorously active, moreover, physical activity sharply declines during adolescence. Childhood may thus be a pivotal time for preventing sedentary behavior among adults by maintaining the habit of physical activity throughout school years. Every effort should be made to encourage schools to require daily physical education in each grade to promote physical activities that can be enjoyed throughout life.

Recent news articles site exacerbation of these health statistics.
Newsweek - Jully 2, 2000 Fat for Life? Generation XXL

  • The Government estimates 6 million American children are now fat enough to endanger their health
  • An additional 5 million are on the threshold and the problem is growing even more extreme as it becomes more widespread.
  • Ten years ago the medical community found that type 2 Diabetes did not occur until after 40 years of age; now, 30% of pediatric patients are type 2.

In addition, every year over 930,000 Americans suffer heart attacks. These adults were fitter as children than our children are today. Heart disease is this nation's number one killer, with one in four Americans showing risk factors. Furthermore, the obesity epidemic has become a critical health problem, second only to tobacco. These are preventable health problems, which are costing taxpayers over $100 billion per year.

well we eat these things daily and not everybody is dying of cancer!!! If you took the blood from just some random fetus, that mother was probably on some kind of drugs if there were some kind of serious toxins in the umbilical cord. Or she had some major health problems herself. But EVERY doctor, instructor,  i have seen or course i have taken, they all say use the Canadas food guide. And the statements that you wrote to that article, will probably scare people. So if we can eat healthy or chocolate (which i said use in moderation, meaning you cant eat a lot of it) then what do you starve, but that will kill your baby.. But also chances are if a mother takes this information to the doctors, s/he will probably say very different.. All im saying is dont write something like that, cuz somebody mite take it a different way, and start thinking all these crazy things, and do something that they're definitly not suppose to do!

Cannot condone

5-12 servings of grain  ( this is the type of diet which guarantees an unfavourable Insulin/Glucagon resoponse and if Type O, A, B blood may pass on Lectin allergy. Minimise grain intake to control omega-6 hormones i.e. inflammatory)

5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables  WOW cop this:

Aging Process: Excessive consumption of Fructose may accelerate the Aging Process (due to it accelerating the process of Cross-Linking in the body’s Tissues).  research

Cardiovascular System
Excessive consumption of Fructose increases the risk of abnormal Blood Clotting ailments.
Excessive consumption of Fructose increases the risk of Cardiovascular Diseases.

Excretory System
Excessive consumption of Fructose increases the risk of Calcium Oxalate Kidney Stones (by increasing the concentration of Calcium in the Urine and increasing the urinary output of N-Acetyl-Glucosaminidase enzyme that is only present in persons with Kidney Ailments).

Immune System
Fructose may be implicated in Cancer.
Excessive consumption of Fructose interferes with the function of Neutrophils (Fructose interferes with the ability of Neutrophils to function as Phagocytes).  research

Metabolism
Intravenous injections of Fructose can cause Acidosis.  research
Fructose increases total serum Cholesterol levels:  peer-reviewed research
Fructose serves in part as the raw material for the synthesis of Cholesterol within the body.
 Fructose increases LDL Cholesterol levels.

Fructose can cause Cross-Linking (glycosylation) the body's endogenous Proteins more rapidly than Glucose:  research
Albumin is glycosylated ten times as rapidly with Fructose than Glucose.
Hemoglobin is glycosylated five times as rapidly with Fructose than Glucose.

Excessive consumption of Fructose can cause Insulin Resistance.  research
Fructose can cause elevated serum Triglyceride levels (especially in Diabetes Mellitus patients):  peer-reviewed research

Fructose is incorporated into Triglycerides more readily than Glucose (i.e. Fructose has a greater propensity to increase serum Triglycerides compared to Glucose).

Musculoskeletal System
Very high consumption of Fructose increases the risk of Gout (due to the ability of Fructose to increase the body’s production of Uric Acid).  research

Oral Health
Fructose causes Tooth Decay (although it is slightly less cariogenic than Sucrose and Glucose).

Skin
Excessive Fructose intake accelerates the development of Wrinkles (due to Frucose stimulating the process of Cross-Linking).  research

Fructose Interferes with these Substances
Minerals

Fructose interferes with the body’s absorption of Copper.  research

Proteins
Fructose accelerates the Cross-Linking of the Skin’s Collagen content.  research

2-3 servings of meat and alternatives ( Try to ensure meat is range fed not grain fed)

For other foods you want to eat/drink them in moderation because they are foods that aren't good for you

1 serving of dairy = 1 cup of whole, 2%, 1%, or skim milk ( pregnancy and infants/children need mor of the good fats like butter and real milk which contain congugated linoleic acid (CLA) and other nutrients best not homogenised) ClA is proven to prevent obesity, heart disease, metasteses in breast cancer and improve immune function.

1 serving of grain = 1 slice of bread

1 serving of fruits/vegetables = 1 medium sized fruit/vegetable

1 serving of meat/alternatives = 1-2 eggs ( must be free range or omega-3 to reduce build up of inflammation provoking arachidonic acid. Eat as many as you like. Great brain food highest known source of phosphatydiserine)

Other foods may include: soft drinks, coffee, tea, candies, butter, etc ( 2 or more soda's a day proven to incvrease risk of breast cancer by at least 2.5%. Eat butter margarine is a killer and do not eat soy or feed infants soy. Go to www.westonprice.com for more, coffee less the better assaults the adrenals, candies avoid all.)

Do  not fall for the dangerous low fat myth. Since that was advocated 20 years back and high grains substiuted obesity is up 36% and diabetese 300% with anincrease of 50% more by 2010  40:30;#0 diet or Metablic Typing diet is best for most of us. Learn more at http://health-care.org.au

to add onto that

to people who are lactose intollerant, take a calcuim pill 600mg or more 2 times a day. i am lactose, i can't have any milk whats so ever, so my doctor told me to do that.

as for coffee and pop, no more than 1 CUP a day. something about the caffinee.. that goes for people who love star buck's, or whatever that has more caffinee than pop or coffee.

to add onto that
make sure you have some Vitamin D with your calcium or your body won't absorb it. Some calcium supplements come with an adequate amount of vitamin D already in them.

Keep in mind also that decaf still has some caffeine in it. Starbucks still has about 5% caff and some fast food and restaurant chains can have much more.
