A comment on advice

Heather by Heather Walking(February 2006) (rank 500+)

In our circle of friends we were the first to have babies- we sort of learnt about parenting without having anyone to compare notes with or ask advice.

As more of our friends have babies, we have knowledge and experience that we are so willing to share, but

often people are uncomfortable about asking....somehow we all think that when you wake up one day as a parent and you are supposed to wake up on that same day, knowing everything about being a parent.

Would we expect anyone to come into a new workplace and succeed at something they have never done without training?...I don't think so.

As parents, we had some successes and some things that didn't work - there are no failures just opportunities to learn.

minti is a brilliant way to share that information with our friends and so many more parents who may need a new idea or new way to handle something - kind of like parenting training!

Subject Eat your own dog food

Whitney - good advice, too often we are the expert at living someone elses life!...NB I though this article was going to be about being prepared to eat the food you prepare for your baby - I strongly support that as well!

Re: Nice advice
Well I don't know about you guys!!! But that is real advice to me. Your right Heather, it makes me feel a hell of a lot better. Being trained for work is a must. You may want to talk about your advice is to keep training yourself in parenting and don't be scared to seek that training from many resources. Why the hell should new parents re-invent a really old wheel.
