Kel's Laws of Parenting: Chapter 1 - Newborns

Kel by Kel Walking(June 2006) (rank 500+)
Here is some potentially obvious advice that I gleaned when our 3 kids were young...

  1. When baby sleeps, Mom sleeps

Despite the temptation to take advantage of the quiet time when your new little bundle is asleep to catch up on the long list of
chores piling up around the house, be strong.  Resist the urge.  Save it for Dad to do - you don't want him feeling left out :-)  Sleep when baby sleeps, you're going to need it !

  2. Let sleeping babies lie

If they're sleeping contentedly, let them be.  They will wake up soon enough, and let you know when they're hungry.
Hope this helps...

I did that

When I was pregnant I was told to leave the housework until she was 18 and had left home and to just enjoy every moment with her.  If you look at this place you can see I took it literally.  It is not dirty, just slightly very totally chaotic!  I sleep when she sleeps, I wake when she wakes (mostly - sometimes she is too early for me).  I get housework done when it is needd - there are no plates left so dishes need sorting, no underwear/sheets/etc, do the laundry.  We have at home days where we can stay in our jimjams (never run out of those - lol) while we veg, do housework together, splash water, clean the floors, and wash the clothes.
Peace

it always strikes me as odd when I hear parents stressing about waking baby for meals or not..........babies are very primal and they eat and sleep when they NEED it. As parents, we pretty much just have to follow their cues!

I wish now I would have let my "sleeping baby lie"  instead of waking her every 4 hours to feed like they told me I had to in the hospital....What a load of crap!  I think I just set her up for bad sleeping habits and routine snacking (not taking full feeds of breast) instead!  Following cues is absolutely right.
