Goat Milk Formula

hoprah by hoprah Speaking(May 2007) (rank 294th)

I started weaning my son onto one bottle of S-26 Formula a day so I could stop pumping BM for him full time.  I found that every bottle that he had, his eczema would break out very badly and he would be irritable and scream or cry.  A friend

of mine who is a naturopath suggested going onto Goat Formula.  He is now on two bottles of Karicare Got Formula a day and hardly any eczema remains!

Goat's milk formula is now recognised as being safe for newborn babies. It may alsobbe an alternative for babies who are found to be allergic to cow or soy formula.

This was taken from: /www.dgc.co.nz

Based on scientific evidence, literature and experience of product use, goat milk infant formula can confer several benefits to infants. Babies can be "more settled" due to advantages of goat milk infant formula.

Key benefits

DGC’s Goat Milk Infant Formula has a range of characteristics which can provide benefits for infant feeding and enable babies to be “more settled”.

·        A higher proportion of medium chain fatty acids, which promote digestion and utilisation of fats.

·        Reduced alpha-s1-casein content results in a softer curd which is more rapidly digested and easier for an infant to tolerate.

·        Enhanced micro-nutrient absorption.

·        Bioactive factors promoting gut development and function, with benefits for gut maturation, reduction/prevention of inflammation, and aiding intestinal repair.

The combination of these characteristics in a single natural food enables their natural synergies to be realised. Infant formula manufacturers and regulators are increasingly looking to more complex modifications and supplementation of cow milk and soy derivatives to produce breastmilk substitutes that more closely match human milk.

Thanks for the article . .

However  . . WARNING: Goats milk is very similar to cow's milk so if your baby/chold is allergic to dairy or Lactose intolerant PLEASE STAY CLEAR OF GOATS MILK . . .

Cheers Kellz

SOS: Goat Milk Formula
Hi,
I am a new mom of an 8-week old adopted son, our first, who is rashing out with scalded skin/eczema-like reaction all over his body every time he drinks his formula. I've tried 6 brands: Enfamil, Enfamil Nutramigen, Earth's Best, Parent's Choice and Nestle Good start.  He won't drink soy and also I've read that soy has issues with too many estrogens, esp. for a boy. My adoption agent suggested goat's milk and I went and got some fresh pasteurized goat's milk and he does great on it..rash clears. Only problem is that after doing much research I've come to understand that plain goat's milk isn't enough: it is deficient in Iron, Folic Acid and B12. Doctors in the USA are against goat's milk and no one sells or makes a goat's milk formula here. I searched desperately online and found KariCare by Nutricia Goat Starter Formula, the answer to my prayers, being that it is fortified with what goat's milk is deficient in, safe, standardized, etc. and many who have babies with similar problems seem to have success. I feel desperate to get this product for my son; my intuition just tells me this is the answer, seeing how well he does on organic fresh pasteurized goat's milk. I feel kind of demonized for wanting to feed him goat's milk or goat milk based formula here in the USA, it just is not done. The pediatricians and mainstream medical and social community guide a new mom to the moneymakers like Enfamil. I am desperate, I have tried so many solutions, including expensive Enfamil hypoallergenic Nutramigen and nothing makes his rash stop but goat's milk. I am too afraid to feed him any more fresh goat's milk so I feed him Nutramigen which my pediatrician recommended and cry as I watch his skin turn red and scalded, then it turns into a sunburn-like affair, then next day dry and leathery and then peels/flakes.
Can anyone help me get this product in the USA? Help me get it purchased and shipped here? I know I might need a prescription from my pediatrician. I think I can get that. But how can i get it purchased and shipped to me? I can't find online purchase site? I am getting devastated and desperate that I can't solve this for my child. Does anyone have a place I can go to purchase this? I am willing to call overseas to a store or send a prescription to the right place but I wonder if international WHO code would even allow that? Does anyone have a solution ? I would be so grateful...thanks!

Thanks so much! I will look into it. Very grateful for the starting point and it's helpful to get feedback from those who have goat's milk formula working well for their little ones!

Hi there,

Just a thought  - has your son been tested for lactose intolerance???? As what you describe could also be that . .  . .So before you go making to many changes I would strongly suggest getting him tested.

cheers Kellz

Re: SOS: Goat Milk Formula
i pray that you have not been pressured to continue using the formulas the doctors are pushing.  my daughter also has had eczema since she was 3 months old.  i tried several formulas, including the nutrimogen, but nothing worked.  i began using goats milk but felt guilty just like you.  the allergist suggested soy so i tried that.  now my daughter is 8 months old and we went to a nutritionalist who did some muscle testing and discovered that she is allergic to the soy formula so i am back on the goats milk. i am now wishing i would have stayed on the goats milk like my nutritionalist suggested from the beginning but i listened to the doctors instead.  the goats milk i am using is sold at Henry's, Trader Joes, Mothers etc.  it is called Meyenberg Goat Milk (powder) and has vitamin D3 and folic acid.  i suggest that you go to a nutritionalist who can reccomend a good suppliment if you are worried about your son not getting enough nutrients on the goats milk.  also, i found some articles that write about the benefits of goats milk in infants.  i wish i had the links but i don't but they are out there so look for them.  please don't continue with the formulas that are causing the outbreaks.

Re: SOS: Goat Milk Formula

Believe me, I listen more to my nutritionist/naturopath than my Dr!  We are sticking with the goat formula!

Thanks for the response!

yep
my son was like that,  he was 8 months old when i weaned him and put him on formula, then he came out in these rashes on his cheaks and he was very flemmy, anyway so i went to see the doctor and she wrote me a script for some cream for it (OMG) i could not accept that, there was a problem and i'm not gonna just stick cream on it, that won't fix whats going on inside him, so then i tried soy formula and there was no change, so i then tryed goats formula and cleared up nearly straight away, and his flemmy chest went away also, i still cannot believe the doctor just gave me a cript for some cream, it just goes to show they don't now much at all, i fixed the problem without there help, obviously if your child has just gone on formula and they are comeing out in a rash and there flemmy that would mean there haveing some kind of allergie towards it dugh! what a stupid doctor to just sugest putting cream on it ugh!
