Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

hermy by hermy Talking Back(May 2007) (rank 94th)

                           This disorder has many flu like symptoms, no apparent cause and no proven cure….

   Symptoms;

n      Fatigue

n      Headaches

n

   Muscle aches and weakness

n      Tender lymph nodes

n      Sore throat

n      Joint pain

n      Difficulty concentrating

n      Short term memory problems

n      Chronic or recurring low grade fever

                       There is no test for CFS, so doctors must rule out all other medical causes before coming to the conclusion that it is CFS. CFS usually develops after a viral illness, such as glandular fever or the flu.

      Contributing factors that may cause CSF;

n      Stress

n      Hormonal imbalance

n      Immune system disorders

n      Psychological problems

                 CFS is more common in women, the recovery is a long process that may take a year or more…….

                A well balance diet is very important when suffering with CFS;

n      Fruit and vegetables help provide energy and vitamins

n      Alcohol should be avoided, it lowers the immune system, only consume caffeinated drinks in moderation

n      To strengthen immune system consume foods rich in zinc eg; seafood, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, beans, nuts and whole grain. Foods rich in vitamin C eg; citrus fruits, berries, melon, kiwi fruit, broccoli and cauliflower. Essential fatty acids eg; fish, nuts, linseeds, canola oil, wheat germ and leafy green vegetables

n      Low blood pressure can cause fatigue – if low blood pressure is present the consumption of salty foods may help alleviate symptoms

n      A combination of evening primrose oil and fish oil has proven hopeful

n      Caution is needed when taking herbal remedies – many contain harmful stimulants

                 If you think you are suffering from CFS, please visit your doctor for a check, he will have to carry out several tests to rule out what it is not, if you can understand what I mean. Maintain a diary of how certain foods and activities affect you. Make sure you follow a well balanced diet, some doctors may prescribe medication, but a well balance diet is best. Try and get 7-9 hours sleep a night, do not nap during the day this may make you feel more fatigued. It may help to join a support group, where you can discuss CFS with other people who are going through the same things…….

                I hope this helps……..

Re: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Thanks for bringing this to others attention. I have encluded the enrty from my blog.

'I have just been diagnosed with C.F.S. (Chronic fatigue syndrome)  This is the first time a doctor has taken me seriuosly, usually thay have made me feel like a mallingerer. My symptoms started at 21 after the brith of my son. It seams every time I have a sever stress shock I slide down to a nother plato. This last slide , triggered by problems we had at the begining of this year, has now plattoed out leaving me with extra pains at the base of my neck, right shoulder and down the back of my right hand. Making it difficult todo every day stuff. I'll add a web sits here to bring attention to how different symptoms can come together under C.F.S.'

Re: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Hey Hermy do you know of any on-line support groups for this...

I have a very good friend, who suffers from this in a bad way..  And because of it has a lot of other complications...  And has become bed ridden.

If you know of any groups that could help I'd much appreciate it..  She has lost a lot of friends due to it because she just can't do anything.  And I am miles away..
