Getting rid of the smell of vomit...

sluxton by sluxton Talking(May 2007) (rank 120th)

Tried and tested several times and most recently last night when my daughter was ill....

Mix together in some warm water in a bucket,

  • a generous squirt of detergent
  • 1/4 cup of bi-carb (more if you feel grossed out)
  • a generous pour of vinegar (a cup or more)

It should bubble and froth nicely, then sponge onto doona, carpet, pour onto sheets that need washing and then turn the tap on them to wash the bulk of it away, or if you are severely grossed out by the smell, put a face washer into it (before you begin to clean with it) and keep over your nose whilst you clean up.

The bicarb will neutralise any smell, and the vinegar kill any germs.  Te detergent helps to lift and soiling.  If it's on a couch or heavily soiled a carpet something, sponge off or wipe away the bulk as best you can, then pour the bicarb on dry over the top and vacuum and responge it again later.

Getting rid of the smell of vomit
oh - and there is nothing quite like being in a hotel room with no vinegar and bicarb and my son threw up whilst at the Nara resort and we had to wait half an hour for someone to bring more bedclothes and a bucket of water which had the tiniest dash of detergent in it.  Then live with the smell til morning!  Next time I'm going to take it all with me!
