I have had a eating problem with my 7yr son Lachlan, for quite some time now. I have tried incentives, coaxing him into eating and many other things.
Usually for his school lunch, I pack a sandwich, popper, pkt of chips, snak paks, a chocolate bar, cheese dip, muesli
bar and maybe a banana. I like him to have a good range of food to choose from....OOPS! And most times he comes home and has eaten hardly anything.
He suffers from Pervassive Developmetnal Disorder. It was only explained to me, the last time I had a appt with the school's Guidance Officer and head of the Special Learning Department that when I serve out dinner at night, which could be 1 sausage, 2 tablespoons of vegies and a small amount of potato that Lachlan see's this like a 3 course meal.
This sends his brain into overload, thinking there is just way too much on his plate for him to eat! Therefore he gives up, with not even a thought to try.
So, both teachers gave me a BRILLIANT thought to try and..................... IT'S WORKING!
They suggested I cut down his lunch to just a sandwich, popper and maybe crackers or something like that, then he will not have so much to choose from, and may eat all his lunch. Also by the time he has tea at night, he will probably be hungry enough to give his dinner a good go.
Well in the last week, most of his school lunch has been eaten, and he's is slowly finishing most of his dinner each night. Well he's giving it a better go than before. He even ate some vegies the other night.....YAY!
And to top my day, he had 2 sausages tonight, and ate all his dinner. I was so proud of him, and gave him lots of praise to a job well done!
Just thought this might help any parents out there, that have school children who have problems with their children not eating dinner at night!
