Shouting

sonk by sonk Talking(May 2007) (rank 104th)
I often shout at my kids to get them to stop whatever I dislike. This stresses me and gets me all worked up. I am doing my best to stop this. There is a technique that I am putting into practise to help me stop this.  Whenever I get upset
with my kids especially when I have said it several times that they should stop what they are doing and they fail to I take in a deep breath and count slowly up to 10. Sometimes I also leave the room in which they are to calm myself down. I love my kids very much but sometimes ...........

shouting
I have to admit to doing this way too often, usually when I'm completely stressed and have NO patience left. The thing that works best for me is I get down to their level and get them away from whatever they are distracted by and say in a very calm and quiet voice  whatever it is I need to say this works so much better.

SHOUTING

Yes, i do alot of this sometimes.

My husband's best mate came up with a good idea a couple of wks ago, after I had a bad night, and was stressed to the max with the kids.

  1. Make a list of ALL things that stress you out, choose a period of time whether it be a day or a whole week.
  2. Go through the list and decide what really gets you stressed, and what you could really let go, and not worry about.

This has really helped. I have shouted alot for a room not clean, or dirty clothes on the floor but.... now I just close the door to their messy room. If I don't have to look at it, therefore it's not stressing me out and I'm not yelling.

Pick your arguments.
I have learnt very quickly to pick my arguments sometimes it is just easier to walk away and not have the confrontation.
