To Help Burns Heal

hermy by hermy Talking Back(May 2007) (rank 44th)

To promote healing and tissue repair, an adequate diet should be maintained, extra kilojoules, protein, zinc, vitamins and minerals……..

Foods high in proteins and zinc are;

n      Lean meat

n      Poultry

n      Fish and shell fish

n      Eggs

n      Legumes

n      Fruit and vegies high in vitamin C……these help with the healing process.

      A burns victim requires extra fluid, sodium and potassium, these are actually seeping through the damaged skin and they should be replaced…..

Same suggestions;

n      Water

n      Broth

n      Fruit juices

n      Non-alcoholic drinks

            These may all be helpful in replacing fluid loss……

               Second and third degree burns are serious and have the risk of infection……….

              If your child has suffered second or third degree burns they must be taken to the emergency straight away……

                I hope this helps……….

Re: To Help Burns Heal
My daughter was burned quite bad on her hand when she was quite young, after touching a steam mop at Grandma's one day. I was never told how diet can help the healing process, even though we were in and out of hospitals for weeks. I wish I had known this earlier! Great advice.

Burns
Great stuff Sandra
I had a small burn to deal with on my 9 year old recently, his curiosity got the better of him when I was putting something in the boot of the car he decided to see just how hot the cigarette lighter got.
By the way, its hot!!!!!
