So your child wants a drink of Cola?

jenaya04 by jenaya04 Talking(May 2007) (rank 500+)

Hello to all my fellow Minti mates!

I wanted to take this opportunity to write a piece about the ever popular drink, Cola. Who hasn't enjoyed this beverage on the rocks or straight up? Well after reading this article, you may head straight for the water as your refreshement of choice instead.

Many of us parents are aware of the cleaning benefits of Cola. Anyone tried pouring a can of it down the toilet? Your toilet bowl will love you for it. Then there is the T-bone in a bowl of Cola test. I did this (only used a chop instead, t-bones cost too much) and low and behold, within a few days, the meat was gone. Just imagine what this could be doing to our insides!!!

Here is a  some more things about Cola and it's uses...

Did you know that Cola is used to clean blood off of roads after car accidents?

Your car battery terminals in a bit of a mess? Why not use Cola, simply pour Cola over terminals to bubble away the corrosion. Infact, the distibutors of Cola have been using it to clean their truck engines for years!

Got a hazy windscreen? Wipe over it with Cola..Ta da!!

What about grease marks on your clothes, Just pour Cola onto your load of washing and wash as normal. The Cola will help lift all the grime from your clothing. Well I'll be, I hear you say? Well read on...

If you want to loosen a bolt, wrap a cloth soaked in Cola around the bolt and hey presto, within a few minutes it's loose!

Hear you have a few rust spots on your car bumper? Pour some Cola onto some scrunched up alfoil and rub bumper gently. You will be amazed!

Cola's main active ingredient is Phosphoric Acid. It has the power to disolve a nail completely within about 4 days. It can also drain the bones of calcium which makes it one of the contributors in the rise of osteoporosis. Just imagine what this (all be it tasty) beverage is doing to our bodies organs, teeth and bones! It must be pretty bad if the trucks that carry the concentrate of Cola, have to display a "highly corrosive material" sign!

Food for thought (or shall I say drink?)  Next time you or your child wants a drink of Cola, think back to this article and then decide!

Glass of water anyone????

Cola

I too am aware of what this drink does but do you think I can give it up? Nope. I have given up the smokes cold turkey after 15 years, I've stopped drinking alcohol but my cola? no can't do it. What a shame. I don't drink as much as I used to but have to have some on a daily basis Such a shame....but I don't like coffee, so I guess it is my caffeine fix

Great article though!

Yummy!

Well ... knowing all this and having been told and shown since I was 8 years old, I and my wife still have a glass every night with our dinner. As far as the kids go .. they don't even like it! Each of them has asked to try and they pull faces and complain that it burns their toungs. They can stick to water but I love the taste

Everything in moderation

Coke

Thanks for trying....but there's NO WAY I'll be giving up my coke any time soon. I'm addicted to the stuff, although I too only drink coke zero so at least it has less sugar .....but still plenty of caffeine..

I tried giving up once and went without it for a week. I then decided to have just one glass......well....I was bouncing off the walls that day.....

Phosphoric Acid
Phosphoric acid is used in cleaning products and fertilisers... Hence the cleaning power of various types of cola products and other carbonated soft drinks as a food grade additive.  It is also used in many other processed foods - some of which are meats, dairy, fats, oils, jams, lollies etc.  Like all things, if used in moderation, it is meant to be fine.

When I used to work in the Vitamin industry, I couldn't believe that people took hydrochloric acid tablets - however, it is a naturally occurring acid in our stomachs used to break down food.  Some people need a boost of it to help their digestive system - however I doubt the average person would think to take any.

However, I have got to try the toilet thing!

cola
Sadly I do know this and yet my favourite drink is still cola.

Add for thought. (I have heard this, so it might be one of those urban myths) But I was told that the coke factory has to replace the bolws and mixers every few weeks or months due to the heavely corrosion.

and I did the whole coin in a glass and it was so clean after. But i still drink it. Will I ever learn. LOL

I cleaned for a realestate once

And the last thing we used to do is the toilet...Just before we left the house ready for re renting we would drop 2 litres of coke into the toilet and leave it....The real estate reckon the toilets have never been cleaner it rips nearly all the calcium build up off on the first flush....

Cheers

Cola
A very interesting article... Which cola in particular are you referring to?  As you know, there are many brands on the market & they all have different recipes.

cola
I was teasing you - it is used in many carbonated soft drinks, made by many companies.

However, many of these companies have other products better suited to children - such as water!

Oops - sorry about that!  I thought it was good that you just used the generic name and didn't allude to any specific brands - very sensible.

Well written! It is true. I have used it in the past to clean my oven bar things and when nothing else worked ... cola did. Scary hey! I will not let the kids touch it! I however have a glass every now and then. Wonder if Fanta or Lift works the same?
