Food Hygiene for Babies

hermy by hermy Talking Back(May 2007) (rank 90th)

Babies can easily get sick from food poisoning….

n      Wash hands thoroughly before preparing food or feeding your baby

n      Wash fruit and vegetables well, even if they are going to be peeled or

cooked

n      Date and label all food that is going to be refrigerated, prepared foods can be stored in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Hot food can be put straight in the fridge

n      Thaw frozen food in the fridge, not on the bench, food can also be defrosted in the microwave

n      Do not put baby’s food in your mouth then give it to baby

n      Once food has been warmed, throw out any left overs

n      It is important to remember that off food can look smell and taste ok. So, if in doubt, throw it out.

 Safety

Babies are more likely to choke on food than an adult…….

n      Always watch them while they are eating

n      Do not let them move around while they are eating

n      Make sure you use a safety harness when your baby is in a high chair

n      Avoid giving them nuts and small hard foods

            Just some very basic knowledge…..

             Feel free to add……

              I hope this helps…………

Re: Food Hygiene for Babies
i always made my daughters food in bulk and froze it! The only jarred stuff she had was the custard and if she didn't eat it in the one sitting, it got thrown out!
I think its ok to test the childs food on your lip for temp.....either that or the tip of tongue! I always did them both and she never got sick LOL.
But this is a great article!
Always wash ur hands!
Keep up the good work!

Baby food
This is really great advice . . . . Too many ppl assume that if it looks ok then it is ok and when it comes to our tiny bundles this isn't ok . . .

All food must be extremely fresh and left overs etc are not ok . . . Thanks for writing it

cheers Kellz
